7/11 Centurion

I bought this 1987 Centurion Ironman one year ago and it was a basket case. The paint was coming off in long strips and all the frame bearings were shot. It needed a complete paint job and I wasn't going to go back to the pink and yellow.I did a 7/11 paint theme and it it very close to what they were riding in 1987 except they had Serotta frames. The bike weight is the same and most of the components are the same. It is now Dura-Ace and 105. Getting the crank and chain wheels to shine was much easer than I thought it would be. The bike is a lot of fun to ride and I saw a lot of heads turning when I road it through uptown Charlotte last week. Two people thought it was the Hampsten Grand Paradiso because of the black stem and handlebars.

Cool.
You know, a lot of the 7-Eleven Team members had custom frames built and painted as team "Huffys" because the Serotta frames they were issued kept breaking. So you're even in the spirit of the original. Well done!

VERY cool. I've been jonesing for a 7-11 bike for a long time now!

What do you have on the head tube? Is it a rattle can paint job?

And not to "poo poo" anything, but it looks like your saddle is too far forward.

frpay = There is nothing on the headtube. I am looking for the correct decal but have not found it yet. Some pictures show a American flag

Bryle= The saddle is a Cinelli Volare. It is the saddle the 7/11 team used in 1987. I had it laying around and stuck it on the bike not knowing it was correct until I was looking at a picture of a team bike last week when I was doing the decals.
The picture I used for reference was in 3-4 Road Bike 2008 page 44. They had a eleven page article "The Real Story of The 7-Eleven Team Bikes" It is a good read. I talked to one of the authors after the article and got a lot of good information about the bikes.
Most people love these saddle's but this one doesn't work for me. I have moved it forward trying to get my ass bones on the back thicker part. I left it on for pictures but it is coming off.The saddle came off my 1987 Cannondale SR 2000 My bike is just like the one on the cover of there 1987 catalog, yellow, the saddle has faded from yellow to green.

It looks like it's tryin' to catch up to that stem. That's got to be a 140mm.

Oh yeah... NICE!!

Wow. That turned out really well.
I think I spoke to you about a year ago. I was calling about another Centurion that was larger (maybe 58) but you said you already sold it (I was crushed!) and then started telling me about your 7/11 paint scheme for another.
Glad you went through with it. Looks awesome.

Here is the Ironman I sold one year ago. It was a 60CM. It also had a long stem and the same saddle. The black stem looks longer but it is not. The seat and stem are stock for the 1987 Ironman. This bike was mint. I bought the rusty one the same day I sold the mint one.

hughes Here is the 1989 Centurion that I may have mentioned also. Sold it a few weeks ago. It was my favorite ride until the 7/11 Centurion was finished. It was a very small frame but I still managed to put almost 3000 miles on it. I added a long stem to it also, works for me.

^^Yep, it was the Ironman. It looked flawless. Too bad I was a little late calling you. Although, if its a 60 like you say, it would maybe be a touch too big.
