Is this worth checking out?

Hey guys I just wanted to know what you guys thought about this. It's a bianchi sport lx for $300. It seems too much but it is my size and I love how it looks. I found a couple threads that suggested the sport SX anywhere from $100-250 depending on condition. I thought I'd get some input before I go check it out. Is $300 too high?

That looks supsiciously like a circa 1987 model. If so, its Bianchi Superset Tubing is actually a Tange 1000/900 blend and the components are Shimano Exage Sport. Basically, it's an entry level sport bicycle. Weight 24.5lbs. Orignal price $475 US.

Hello an '87 model is black or red with different decals, and Suntour Alpha 5000. this one is a 1989 with Ishwata 022/024 DB Chromoly (in Bianchi Superset of course) with Shimano Sport LX components. the actual model name is Sport SX not sport lx. the retail of this was right about $500

It looks to be in good shape. In ready to ride condition I could get $200-225 in Tampa.

+1 Jim's price range is right on target. If you are thrifty, I would wait a week and contact the seller and perhaps make an offer. Realize even though it is overpriced, someone might just pay it. It does not mean you should.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments. The seller says he will drop the price every week that no one buys. I'll wait on this one. Thanks again

How much is he going to drop it by? $10? $25? $50. I've seen sellers drop the price of a $400 bike by $10.

Be carefull, if you wait too long it'll be gone. Keep in mind that price and availablity are heavily dependant on your local market. If your in the middle of nowhere North Dakota there isnt alot of demand so prices should be low but then agian a bike like the Bianchi may show up once every 2 years which increases demand.

If your in a high volume market like Portland, NY, Boston or Tampa a bike like that will disappear within 30 minutes of an ad being placed that meets the local markets threshold price. Each markets threshold is different.

$200-$225 no matter what color it is.
Then add for celeste green, another $25-$50

My guess is it goes for $250-$275.

Small size will draw a premium, and seller could find someone willing to overpay. It is hard to find good vintage bike in the small sizes. If it was priced at market, around here it would sell just about immediately. I have had buyers drive over 100 miles one way to buy small frame road bikes.

Sorry, typo on my part. I meant 1988, as opposed to 1987. Guess it could be a 1989 too.

The bike's located in orange county (s. california). I don't know how much he's going to drop it, that's all he mentioned. You guys make some good points though, I'm starting to think I should hop on this asap...

It's maybe overpriced by $25 but this is a hard to find size. How long is it going to take before you find another one like that in your size? Plus there could be some nice tools in that saddlebag, looks full

not that it makes a huge difference as both bikes were nice for the price. the paint and decals on the '88 and 89 are similar however the components are different. the photo is not the best but judging from the light colored brake levers and white cage in the rear derailluer, not to mention the bike described as a 'sport lx' this appears to me to be a '89. I likely assembled a dozen or so of them too I just wish I could find bikes that nice looking in my size
