Yyyyyes!
Awesome, dude.

I'd drop the red housing, unless you're fond of the Mike Scott-era Astros. Paint doesn't look too shabby, either!

Very envious. Keep us posted...

Absolutely... the red housing will go. I guess I could go Charlie Brown on it and use black cables. Dunno. I'm open to suggestions.

Maybe I'll ride it down to NYC next summer to catch a ball game. You could take it for a spin.

Sorry for the not-so-great image quality. I'm on dial-up with noisy phone lines so I scale down the quality using the GIMP. Think of it as vintage internet.

Stunning! I'm guessing the Campagnolo equipped sticker was added by the owner?

I don't mind the stem, but I would bump it up for looks.

I was thinking the same thing. I think he removed the 'Schwinn' decal also. You can see the paint fade where it was.

Have you thought about getting replacement decals? That would be sweet!

I'm not sure about colors. Maybe somebody else can chime in on that.

It's possible I'll need a longer reach stem. Maybe Tuesday I'll get a chance to put some different wheels on it and ride around the block, see how it feels.

There used to be a "SUPERIOR" decal where the Campagnolo decal sits now:

One eBay seller has NOS "Superior" decals (the '81-82 variant, not the Art Deco '83 set) available in the creme color you need - only problem is, I forgot who it was. Sorry. Keep an eye out.

Pearl Orange in 1981 and 1982 (note that the prototype had a longer section of the fork blades chromed):

From: http://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1...0/1981_06.html

Platinum Grey in 1983 (Supposedly a different lug set as well - they look like Cinellis in the catalog photo - but I've seen a few with Nervex in this color):

From: http://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1...983Ltwt04.html

I've also seen examples in black, with the 1983 decal set.

Cool. I''ll watch ebay for 'em

Hmmm... the specs from that catalog scan say Gran Sport basically all around but my front hub says 'Record' and the RD says 'Nuovo Record'. The previous owner (original supposedly) says other than the rims and saddle, everything is original. Upgrades from GS I believe. Any thoughts on that?

Yup $250. The original CL ad had it for $200. Cost $35 in fuel to go get it, about 325 miles. I don't drive but my brother was sporting enough to not only loan me part of the money but also drive me down there. I would've bought him dinner but the store we stopped at advertising a deli had stopped making sandwiches earlier.

The hub and RD are upgrades. The RD, particularly so in terms of appearance, IMO - I have a particular dislike for the look of Nuovo Gran Sport RD's myself.

Lucky you - I paid $350 shipped for my frameset alone. Absolutely superb catch at a superb find.

I really like that color.
Where I live (in Canada) Schwinn bikes were low end crap. I never saw any quality Schwinn rides until I came to BF.
Its still seems weird to see a Schwinn with Campy parts. Why didn't Canada get any nice Schwwinn bikes?

I was going to buy that, but I've been scoring a bit too many of the "deals" off of the local CL's so I figured I'd give someone else a turn! Besides, I just got that Raleigh Competition GS, and I don't need two GS equipped 531 bikes...

Thanks. I put a heads up in the "Are you looking for one of these?" thread because I have no money. But then I kept thinking about it and I mean "What's a few hundred bucks?". Back in the early 90's party days $250 was a dull night.

Is that your "Almost a Cinelli"? Nice looking.

We're they actually even sold in Canada back then? I have a suspicion you wouldnt see a schwinn under any normal circumstances in a Canadian shop till after the high import bicycle duties fee's were waved sometime in the 1980s. Ive only see 2 schwinns locally, a yellow le tour, and a red "world". The world was sporting a shop decal showing it came from a shop in Orillia, ON (near Toronto). not to sure about the le tour, it did look pretty old, and I imagine it must of been purchases in the states.
