Hi My Name is Ken and I'm a Cyclohorder

I guess it's not a bad habit to have (unless you don't have space for them)! But most of my bikes (and/or frames) tend to be either Peugeot or Raleigh...does anyone else have this problem?

At last count I had seven Peugeots, two Raleighs and one Gitane. For some reason I like the Peugeots - I don't have any PX-10s or anything but just keep coming across these bikes. At wife's request, I did get rid of one frame so I'm down to six. I obviously can't ride them all (which is what the wife continuously says) but there's something I like about each one, even the ugly ones.

4 out of my current 9 are Centurions. I have not scored a Peugeot yet. I guess different parts of the country will have a different bike populous.

I tend to lean towards Peugeots and Raleigh's myself. Six of my "Keepers" are Raleigh's and four are Peugeots. Everything else are ones and two's.

Well, I've got 7 in the garage but I only consider 4 of them to be "mine". One used to be mine but my wife rides it now. One is on loan indefinitely from a friend who never used it but couldn't bear to sell it to me. One was rescued from my dad's barn and is up for sale on craigslist.

My wife is already throwing a fit. I'm not sure how to feed my habit any further without a divorce in my future. Any tips?

Hi Ken, welcome to the group. We meet daily and are a very enabling, errrrr I mean supportive group.

We can help lead you down a different path in life, such as Panasonic, Miyta, Centurion, or the lovely examples from Italy such as Colnago, DeRosa, etc.

In short, we're here to help.

I really don't have a problem.

Honest.

Ten are mine. Two are my son's. One is my wife's. Those other three ladies' bikes will all be gone some day - after I can make them nice. Fall/winter projects.

I told my wife I was thinking of building a "stacked" bike rack in the kitchen and living room,
(one on top of the other, kinda to show them off but kinda to work on them easier)

and that it would save the space that the bikes take already.

Holy mother I opened up her can-o-wupasss!!
...You're bikes are taking over the house...
...have no room for my sewing stuff...
...parts all over the floor...
...I wanted to have a butcher block in the kitchen...
...you already took over the garage...

My grandmother visited the other day, and asked her,
...why does TP have so many bikes? (15 or so)

hehehe...

You could have possibly made a case for them being "art" in the living room, but you made a huge error when you brought the kitchen into the discussion.

Either you have some learning to do about women, or you have a bike problem (possibly both).

I have about 30 or so bikes. Most of them are flippers in need of attention. I have a house and a three-car garage, with most of the bikes in the third bay. But now there are bikes under a tarp behind the garage in the alley, and more under a big pine in the backyard. My wife and daughter would like to see them go. On the other hand, they phoned me at work from the car to alert me to another vintage green Schwinn offered at a yard sale they saw from the road. So, yes, I went and got it.

As bad as that is, I would never EVER bring them in the house. Nor would I displace my cars from the garage.

You know the bikes will always love you no matter what!

BUT!!!:
You gotta flip one now and then and give mama the money. About every 3rd OR 4th bike is heres....name one after her...and name one the "nickname" you have for her...cull the not so good to pay for the better ones....yes...we love them all because they are individuals with stories to tell...and they need tlc...but you gotta sacrifice some of them man!! Send them to the chopping blocks or its gonna be you!! Good luck!! Oh...move to a house....youll have lots more room and mama will be elated.

<GOD be with him>

My workshop includes a modest collection of 15 bikes including a handful of vintage keepers: 2Colnagos, a De Rosa, a Medici, and a Gios (sloping fork crown, no coins). Aside from that, my Jamis Eclipse in which I ride most often, a couple of weight-weenie Giants for my racer son, a couple of hardtail steel mountain bikes for my other son, and three works in progress. What allows me to live in peace is that I'm careful to include my daughter's beach cruiser and my wife's Scattante Limited Edition with all Dura Ace in a place of honor, within easy reach, and of course their bikes get a wipe-down and chain lube after every ride. The sacrifice (there is always a sacrifice) was a 1982 Tommaso (super record), a 1978 Aquila (super record) and a 1967 Atala with beautiful paint job and gorgeous chromed lugs. Ah well, all three of these were wall-hangers, they never really fit quite right.

Women like alot of things but only love 1 thing....money. Flip a couple of bikes and send her to a spa for the day or take her to a nice dinner somewhere. Be sure to let her know its 'bike money' that paid for it all.

Not as many now, but at one time I had close to 50. Right now there are probably 20-25, and it is pretty sad that I am not even sure how many there are as they are spead between the garage, attic above the garage and the basement.

Generally speaking, the wife gets half of any profit. Sometimes I take it all, and sometimes I throw it all at a house project, but generally, it's 50-50.

However, we consider ourselves partners in the venture. She does some of the overhaul work (she likes cleaning frames and wrapping bars), and she keeps her eyes peeled for bargains. And, she was the one who insisted that we buy a workbench kit for the basement and she actually put it together! (she is very handy and like to put things together).

I really only get in trouble if I spend too much time looking at bikes on the computer or tinkering in the basement. Then, I'm "anti-social."

I count myself as one of the lucky ones.

Oh, yeah. Currently, I have six. She has two. And, we have two beater/lock up outside bikes. One ready to flip.

How'd you work out a sweet deal like that? My wife seems to get 100% of all the money and I just get credit card stements...

If the Mrs. ever threatens to sell your bikes for scrap metal or worse, maybe there's a way to find them a good home. Whenever I've faced the dilemma of giving something away, selling it, or leaving it at the curb, I'm usually more than happy to give it away if I know it will go to someone who needs it or wants it.

Maybe a bicycle sharing system (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle_sharing_system)...or something for inner-city kids...Or maybe there's a program that sends them to 3rd world countries, etc...

So far, I only have 3: 1 commuter, 1 back-up commuter, and one lightweight road cruiser. But it would really make me feel good if I could talk other people into giving away their bikes for a good cause...such as saving their marriage...assuming it's worth saving. :-)

I stopped counting. It's that crazy. Bikes come, bikes go, my wife complains.
Next month, I've got to get it under control.
My wife says it's cheaper to let me buy bikes than go to the Doctor to put me on OCB drugs.
