onverting old tenspeed to 12

My old Azuki has the old style straight tooth 5speed freewheel, gearing and size of the wheel itself is wrong for me, so I plan to run an old set of dura-ace 7spd tubulars. Have tried them on the bike and they ride fine, totally transform the bike from a decen town bike to a speedy little long haul rider.

Issue is that the early 70s chain seems to be a bit thick, it rides very close to the sprockets on each side straight on is quiet, but even going one gear either direction causes a lght buzz.

Thinking of going to a more modern/thinner chain, but I'm not sure what effect it will have on the chainwheels, I like the chainwheel combination I have in front, so would prefer not changing them.

Will a thinner chain work with the old style chain wheels? Or is there something else I should try?

Ken.

Edit:
Yeah I know 7x2 is not 12.....

If you're referring to a 6-7-8 speed chain from SRAM or Shimano or other reputable brand, should be no problem at all.

great to hear, I'll pick one up and try it out.
If it doesn't work I need a new chain on the gitane anyway.

Thanks
Ken.
