This is the best that the search feature has to offer lol.

I'm in the same situation with a beater bike I picked up would it be fine to use a punch or c clamps to make some room?

Bigger hammer and chisel. And don't forget the touch-up paint.

Front fork or rear brake bridge? Why not just use smaller tires? If it's a 27" wheelo then going to 700C will allow you to fit bigger tires but without damaging or possibly weakening the frame.

Cheers from Miele Man

I think this is a very worthwhile thread.

And as long as you're just talking about filing away the last couple mm of a steerer tube that sticks down from the underside of the fork crown by that much, I say "have at it." I've seen a lot of forks like that, but I'm usually a smaller-tires kinda guy, so I've never been tempted to do it myself.

Back when this thread was started I did some cleanup with a file on the bottom of my Gitane crown. Whoever put 27 inch wheels on it roughly tried to make a little extra clearance. I cleaned it up to a nice concave radius, polished it down and painted it. Voila.

related issue i experienced recently:

put 27" wheels on a '73 peugeot that originally had 700c wheels. the replacement fork it came with is for a 27" wheel. it all works fine, but i can't mount/dismount the rear with it being fully inflated as the tire hits the little bridge behind the bb shell. tires are the smallest paselas offered -- 1".

kinda weird.

Mount the wheel on a 5 degree angle to maximize space under the fork crown.
