i love my wife...

So my wife and kids went out of town last weekend for almost 5 days.
The day she left a new project was shipped in,
(the basso gap on previous thread)
basically a trade from ebaying that broken woodrup frame.

Well in addition to basically the rolling frame,
it didn't take long for some other parts to migrate into the house,
you know, ebay things, parts that might'a completed projects etc...5 days is a long time!

I tried half-heartedly to clean stuff up before they came back,
but it was more like pile stuff into the corners.
Bikes stacked in the kitchen and living room,
she couldn't even notice the new addition.

This had been there for over a week, and it was taking up alot of floor space.

Well I had always imagined a stacked bike rack.
There are tons of them on ebay but I had a better idea for one,
plus didn't want to waste paypal money shipping a stupid rack!

Anyway she wasn't too thrilled about the rack(s) idea,
and it opened up a whole can of worms most married people have tasted.
But after a couple days she caved in,
with the help of my brother and another friend.
(yeah it was a 2-sided deal, she was holding out so my to-do list got longer)
so the next night I powered out the racks.

I owned a kayak shop for a while,
(another excuse for a sporting goods addiction-she married into this knowingly!)
so had some old rack scrap that i had predrilled 10 years ago,
so I only had to make the hangers,
saved alot of time, but there are holes where they're not needed but thats ok.

these are my project bikes,
'73 paramount and '84ish basso gap.
Conveniently located next to the computer,
and on top of the heater which eats small metal parts too.
(never used though)

These are my riders,
the solid '73 schroder and the twitchy '80 paletti.

Now I just need to find a place for these...!!

(1937 shelby's)

Anyway just thought I'd share.

TP

I will never see the day that my wife allows me to store bicycles in the house.

Especially when last winter I spilled a couple of drops of touch up paint on the carpet in our home office.

Nice.

I have the same storage issue and the same cheapness trend and a Mig welder.

I keep 2 of my DD's in the house because my garage doesn't have a door into the house (and the garage is full of other bikes and projects LOL ).

I have vaulted ceilings and looking at making a similar "display" racks for my DD's and the wifes 1987 Terry that has maybe 50 miles on it.

How about some detail shots of the hangers.

i'm lucky in that i have a full basement in which to store all my bikes, and also house my workshop. i have lots of work tables, a deep, double-basin sink with hot and cold water (essential for degreasing and cleaning!), and space for a work stand. two drawbacks: it's damp, so it's not ideal for long-term bike storage (need to get a dehumidifier), and the only door to the basement is a short "half-height" door about two feet above the floor of the basement, with rickety steps leading up to it. so getting bikes in and out is sort of a pain.

I love my wife too!
When we were first married, the house we bought had no shop, so she let me have the dining room for my guitar shop. I don't remember how long I was in there, but we were remodeling the house room by room, so it doubled as the work shop for that project also. I actually moved a rowboat into there for some job or other.
Those days are long gone, she owns all the rooms now, I can't come inside with sawdust on my pants anymore.
