My Pinarello Treviso

There have been quite a few Pinarello threads going around lately! I've just finished mine so I thought I'd post a few pictures. I'm proud of how it turned out and hopefully it can help others identify their bike somehow in the future.

From what I can tell, it's an '85 or '86 Pinarello Treviso Victory. Bulgier.net has a catalog from '85 that has pretty much exactly my bike and it isn't in the '87 catalog, so that's my guess. I think the paint scheme is telling, with chrome drive-side chainstay and fork crown caps. The serial number is C709.

I've been riding it for about 2 months with stand-in parts as I pieced together what I needed. It's really a joy to ride. Corners wonderfully, seems to explode up hills, goes fast, everything you'd expect of a fine Italian machine.

First, a "before" picture, as it was when I bought it. Please pardon the kitchen mess and the cell phone, non-driveside picture. Believe it or not it had huge BMX pedals, a Kalloy adjustable stem, steel riser bars with mountain bike levers, 36mm tires, a huge gel seat, and a flickstand.

After some work putting it back in it's proper condition, I've ended up with this:

The levers are the result of a successful transaction via the ISO/WTB Thread (Thanks cyclotoine!). Those with a keen eye will notice the rear derailleur isn't Victory - it came to me that way and I appreciate the indexing on these Shimano RX100s, even though they're cheap, and they work pretty well.

You can see the full set of 39 high-res photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/j0ew00d...7622218580577/. What do you think?

Nice rescue.

It had to have been writhing in quiet agony in its before state.

Yah, Baby! The first pic gave me chills, and I usually have a thicker skin than most around here when it comes to mods.

I don't know... the hybid-ized version is looking pretty sweet

Seriously though, great job bringing that one back to life!

Very very nice. How do you like those tires? What bar tape have you used?

Yeah. When i first picked it up i grabbed the top tube where i normally would and the bike fell forward. Super front-heavy.. i was ashamed to be seen with it test riding it.

I like the tires so far but i've only got ~300 miles on them. Haven't ridden through glass that I know of so can't really comment on puncture resistance but they ride nice.

The tape is smooth Fizik Microtex. I ride with the VO elkhide on my commuter and have decided I like bars that are small in my hands. Foam tape is too bulky for me.

Get some touch up paint, and paint those scrapes in the paint, before they rust and pit the metal. It looks 1000 times better than hybrid version, awesome bike. Really like white tape, saddle, cable and tires! you should get white pedals as well. Mind me asking, how much did you pay for it, just PM me.

I'll get some touch up paint eventually. The whole frame is chromed, none of the chips go into the chrome, and I'm almost positive they've been there for a long time to no detriment, so I'm not in any rush.

I'll just tell you what I paid... suppose someone may find it useful.. The hybrid version was $350 locally on CL. When I bought it 10 weeks ago I told myself I'd take my time building it up, but that didn't happen. I got antsy and I suppose my lack of patience cost me. The rest of the parts I used put it up to $720, $110 of which was the saddle.

I'm almost certain I've spent more than I could sell it for but I'm keeping it and riding it every weekend, so who cares? It's also way sexier than anything I could buy new at my LBS and cheaper than anything there of the same quality level. And I got to pick and choose all the parts and colors! So I'm pleased.

Thanks for the compliments!

I don't think you can place a value on the happiness you get from completing your very own bike. I have a few like that, but I am pleased with the overall product and it is worth every penny to me. Very nice ride you have there!

You're not too far from the real value, at least from my experience selling one. Here it is after I replaced the decals (they were like yours).

Nice work btw !

They were originals that I was lucky enough to get with a Pinarello Montello I had purchased a few months prior
