Info on Deore RD

I have an older Shimano Deore rear derailleur and am wondering if it is index or not. The stampings on the back are RD MT80 with a LD below that. Any info would be appreciated. I'm thinking of updating my LeTour to index and have this on hand.

Any RD can index. Indexing is up to your shifters.

BTW .... I'm not sure there was an MT 80. Are you sure it's not an RD MT 60 like this https://www.velobase.com/ViewSingleCo...71b08&Enum=108

The LD indicates an April 1987 manufacture. The Deore derailleur that year was the MT60. It is index compatible. Maybe you misread the product number?

Probably the case - the eyes are the first to go.... It looks like the pic Garthr posted. Thanks for the help. It sounds like it is worth a shot trying with a set of bar end shifter pods I recently acquired.

I think my biggest challenge will be trying to mount my shimano cable stop adjusters. The bike has the top mount Suntour Symmetric shifters so they will have to work on those shifter studs or I'll need to use clamp on stops. In a way I hate to part with the Symmetric since it works so well but I'd rather have bar ends for loaded touring.
