Gitane Grand Sport De Luxe - Mixte

Anyone know much about this bike? Has a sticker on it that says "Custom Made" and another that says "Tour De France" in multiple languages. In great working order, paint is only so so though. Any insight is appreciated.

Nice early 70's french "bike boom" 10 speed. I have the mens version. A lot of these were sold back in the 70's. I think they are real classics. Nothing fancy, but well made, dependable bikes. The Grand Sport Deluxe was the basic "starter" ten speed. Compares to a Peugeot UO-8 or Raleigh Grand Prix.

Yeah, it's got a lot of the same components as my Peugeot UO-18. I've had good success removing rust from a couple of old Peugeots in similar condition. Don't know if that seatpost can be salvaged though. Give it a try with a wire brush (copper, not steel) and some solvent. I use paint thinner. I'm talking about the metal parts, not the frame.
