Cinelli Model 64 handlebar

Hi folks,

I'm turning to you for help with my search as I have been very impressed with the help that you have given each other and the extensive experience and resources that you possess.

I am looking for a Cinelli model 64 Giro D’Italia handlebar in 42 cm width. My 1966 Paramount P13, which I bought new while living in Wisconsin, was recently restored with the superb help of the folks at Circle A Cycles in Providence, RI. Although the bike rides like new, I am finding the original 38 cm model 64 bars too narrow in terms of comfort and balance, which is likely due to my age as well as not riding for over 35 years until 2006.

Is there anyone out there who would be willing to part with and sell me a 42 cm bar? I would appreciate as nice a handlebar as possible, that is one which is structurally strong and free of dents, etc., and with any deep scratching on the exposed areas of the bar. If interested, I would be very willing to include my 38 cm bars in the sale. My bar is beautiful, highly polished on the exposed part, free of damage or scratching, and a true vintage gem. It has the early double “Mod.Giro D’Italia” imprints inscribed on each side of the center sleeve.

Your help in obtaining this bar would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks,

“laddie”/Dave

The Giro Model 64 wasn't offered in 42cm.

Dave - when you do find some 66-42's, I'd be quite interested in purchasing the originals from you. I have a chrome 1972 P13 that is in need of nice Cinelli Giro D'Italia old-logo handlebars.

Incidentally, I might be able to get you some new-logo Giro D'Italia 64-42's. They wouldn't be entirely correct due to the later Flying "C" Cinelli logo, but they should be exactly what you wish for in terms of comfort.

If a new-logo bar is acceptable to you (far as I know, the old-logo bars came no wider then 40cm), let me know, and I'll call the local fellow I know who has a few spare Cinelli Giro bars. Private message me if interested.

I have 3 or 4 of them sitting here. Problem is, I have 3 or 4 frames, too, so I won't know until the dust settles or I keel over. If Mrs. Tunes is posting them, that means....

Good luck in your search. Your best bet maybe ebay or a swap meet. That's where I found one for $20.

Here is one on ebay.

This place has the 38cm and 40cm but no 42.

I have a clean set that I'm not using. How do you find the measurement?

Gotta love those emblems, I wish I liked drops...

Now, I'm in the opposite position, I have a set on my Alan that are too wide, and need narrower. Mine are the new style though, and I run aero's so need/want the grooves.

As for the measurement, I think Cinelli measures center to center. 42cm should be right around 16 and 3/8-1/2inch

Ken.

I have a set of 64-42's with a small scratch on them. I'd trade for some 64-40's dual groove, preferred.

Was the 42cm width added at the beginning (1978) of the new logo?

Salamandrine 02-21-17 11:05 PM

I don't know for sure but at that time everyone rode 38 or 40. If 42 was available it would have been a special order and highly unusual.

Just checked the old PA catalog circa 79. Model 66 is the only bar that is available in a 42 width at that time, they say specifically.

As I recall it, 64's in 38 and 40cm ctc.
63's in 38, 40. ( my favorite, like a 66 just not as deep)
66's in 38, 40, 42.
65's in 38, 40.
Above for old logo.

I have a later pair of 64's in 44 cm! Funny, I have no idea where they came from.
