American Hardware Store 20" bike

Does anyone know anything about this bike or bike company. It's obviously not high quality and was sold through a hardware store. I don't expect anyone to know anything about the serial number. Am I safe to assume it was probably made in the 70's? Regular Google search turned up nothing for me. Thanks.

Looks to me like a bike made by either Murray, AMF, Roadmaster, etc., Basic 70's USA bike.

+1 Typical rebranded dept store bike from the late 60s/early 70s.

It's a Columbia, judging by the dropouts and the chainstays. There are a couple of lists of Columbia serial numbers online you could check for a date of manufacture, but early 70s is probably a good guess.
