rim eyelet replacement
hi,
i finally found a nice pair of weinmann aluminum rims (20mm) for my classic winter build-up. when taking the back wheel apart, two eyelets broke free. i inspected the rim for cracks in those areas (as suggested in other posts) and everything looks fine.
so here is my question. can i replace the two eyelets? i'm sure these type of eyelets are available for crafts and such in a variety of sizes and metals. perhaps the problem would be finding a suitable tool to install them?
i really love these rims. they are the one with a ridge down the middle. could i just lace this without 2 eyelets, using a washer beneath the spoke nipple?
i searched hard for information about replacing ferrules but came up empty. most suggestions were to replace the rim, which in my case, i'd prefer not to do.
thanks,
edit: i just got the idea to reverse the eyelet so the part which normally shows on top is now on the inside. of course this isn't as pretty a soltution as replacing it, but the load from the nipple will be better distributed and the hole isn't as large as with no ferrule. pic 2 shows how it looks.
