Pogliaghi Tandem
This is a pretty amazing bike. The bike needs some attention, but a Pogliaghi tandem with Campy NR parts and bar end shifters. How cool is that! And I think that's a worn Columbus tubing decal under the rear seat. It's on San Francisco Craigslist here...

Very nice. All it needs is a good cleanup and some green tape. I guess another set of pedals wouldn't hurt either. Thanks for posting.

yah that's Nathan C.'s bike, posted to CR list about it.
Sante was quite well known for his tandems, and his track tandems specifically.
my size (captain), stoker is too tall for the wife, guess I'll have to pass on this one.

One went for about $875 on the local CL a few years back here in Boulder. I saw it hanging in a guys apartment and he told me the story of how he had to race to get it before a LBS owner/collector got there. He later sold it on ebay for ~$4000. I don't know how he ever shipped it though

there was another one, long time ago, for sale at the Trips for Kids charity shop in Marin (San Rafael), don't think it was this one but I can't recall what color it was (maybe pink!). It was hanging up in their side room for years, and they had a Holdsworth tandem alongside it.

I would hate to be the stoker on that bike. It looks to have a very short rear section.

It was just up for auction on eBay https://cgi.ebay.com/Pogliaghi-Tandem...item2556ff4aa0 but didn't make the reserve. I'd love to have that Campy tandem crank on our Santana!

Where a short rear top tube does make for a less than ideal situation is where the stoker is considerably shorter than the the captain, making no forward view possible, as well as making it uncomfortable with placement of your head. But on tandems like the Pogliaghi with more or less equal sizes front and rear, there are no major counterindications to short rear top tube if you have two good riders who are interested in riding fast.

On this tandem they are running bar end shifters. The bike has shifter bosses so the cable housing stops at the bosses. Is there a period cable housing stop that mounts to the bosses? I have only seen clamp on ones and I have modern ones but I would like to use some bar ends on a late 70's bike that has bosses and the modern ones would be a little meh.

Try it before you continue to propogate these ideas. On a single, you need to be stretched out to get an aerodynamic position and locate the center of gravity in the middle of the frame for proper handling. Neither of these are improved upon on a tandem having a longer top tube. In fact, the shorter top tube actually improves both of these attributes.
