Raleigh Price?

While I hope to find an old Raleigh roadster at my local junk shop, I might end up buying one that somebody has already found. Is it possible to determine an approximate price for a Standard Sport w/ a B67 saddle? Does color make a difference?

In 1999, my top of the line Superbe cost me $300.00. A Raleigh Sports in good condition might be between $75 to $150.

I agree with Norman, watch your Craiglist for the best deal, watch ebay for the highest prices.
I will say, the older bike you can find, the higher quality it will be. Once you hit the '70's things start going down hill.
Since I now have a good "rider" I am going to sit back and keep looking till I can source at least a straight frame from the '50's.

Prices vary as you might expect. Some people think they have an invaluable antique... others see an old and heavy junkpile.

Your best bet is to buy the first one that is in excellent condition... don't settle for a trashed one unless it's dirt cheap. You are going to have to spend a whole lot of time cleaning it up and getting it road ready regardless, so I would spend as much as you can afford for the right bike.

I have many old Raleighs, my best is a near mint Superbe with all the bells, which I paid about 300.00. It's sitting in front of my now, and I have yet to see a better one. You're not going to live forever... buy the bike you want!

I do like the 50's Raleigh quite a bit as well. The great thing is the quality of the paint. You can buy a $20.00 English 3 speed that looks awful (to the seller) and take it home and polish it up. The difference will amaze you. I polished up a few black frames so nicely that they could almost be new. You can't do that with a 70's paint job.

BTW... I will be selling most of my collection. At 32 bikes I am becoming the "crazy cat lady" of vintage bikes.

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's and older road bikes.
