Help ID this C'dale
 

I have an opportunity to pick up this "Cannondale Touring Bike" for $70. Not sure on the model...not a lot of info. Looks to be in good shape and it make a really nice commuter....or maybe a flipper. Perfect size for me though, and from the pics it sure looks decent. RD is a Suntour XCM, triple crank, 6-speed rear with 27" wheels. Thinking ST### something or other. Al Frame, steel fork.

I believe the stay decals in conjuction with the USA flag make it a 1989 model. The presence of cantilevers suggest a ST1000 as it was the only touring model so equipped. However, the ST1000 was not XCXM equipped so it was probably built up from a frameset or is a frankenbike.

Not a franken bike. In 1990 the entry level touring bike was a ST400 and came with cantilevers. The first and only year as it was eliminated from the line up in 1991. Suntour 6 speed freewheel, 27" wheels, Suntour XCM drive train and came in Blue. The rest of the specs; sanaandterry.com/cannondale/year/1990/1990.pdf
Basically they used the same frame for all their touring models in 1990 and just changed the components for each model ST400-600-1000. I have a later year T-600 and it is the best touring frame and the only bike I own that is not steel.

Just a quick bump, stripped the bike down a bit and threw some new tires on it just to get it out for a quick ride before I tear into all the bearings and clean 'er up like I tend to do (see thread about my wife's schwinn to get an idea of how thorough I can get).

Someone should have really warned me how nice these ride. Holy moly!! Smooth as silk and hard to believe it's aluminum. Really going to like having this for a commuter :love: Won't be too long and the rack and fenders will be back in place. But, plenty sharp without them too :)

Sorry so many people here realize how terrific the Cannondale touring bikes are. If they start being recognized for what they are, there won't be many more $70 bargain C'dale tourers turning up.

I have a nephew who is always badgering me, his sister, and brother-in-law with "Crack-n-fail" comments. I let his words roll like water off a duck's back because I'm certain he's just envious. There are three different models of C-Dales in my basement, and all are exceptional bikes, just like the T-1000 you found for $70! Wow!

This is true of Cannondale's in general. The price on some of their early roadies has shot through the roof, probably due to the popularity and ubiquitousness of the CAAD9, and so many newer riders ditching their crappy SS/FG conversions for real road bikes, but wanting something sufficiently "vintage" and cool.

What a fantastic bike. Got to be a contender for ´Deal of the Year´.

Over the winter I'm building myself a new one (look for it: The Yellow Submarine) but almost hate the thought of not riding Big Red.

Smoking deal. They are sweet riders and under appreciated by those that have not had the good fortune to ride one.

Bought the 63cm 98 T700 because My 58cm 95 T700 was a little small for me but I can't bare to part with with the 95. Set it up more like a cyclocross/dry light commuter and kept the 98 set up as commuter with full fenders. Both are now 9 speed's with brifters.

Nice find, if you ever want to part with it I could always use another one.
