Trying to sell my old Trek 1400

Hey Guys,

My dad gave me his old Trek bike but it's a little big for me. So I decided to sell it for books for next semester...

I don't really know how much I should let it go for... I was thinking $250ish... Too high/too low? idk...

What do you guys think?

It's in excellent condition and with no signs of wear anywhere. It has new grips, rims, tires and the rear tube has been replaced as well.
The size isn't posted anywhere on the bike, but I measured approx. 58cm

Here are some quick pics I just took...

Thanks for all the help!

and if anyone's interested, don't hesitate to pm me

-Jody

In San Diego $250 for that bike should be a very quick sale on CraigsList. No negotiations required. Here in Bham, AL, it might take longer or have to be list priced to allow some haggling, but still wouldn't be out of line.

Thats what I thought :/
as soon as I posted it up on craigslist my inbox was loaded with emails, but they were all offers between $50-$100
which seemed pretty lame...

Yes, 250 sounds about right to me. I bought my 1420 last year for 210.00 (listed at 250.00). It's a great bike with great components, 50-100 is insulting!

+1 Around here, it would sell for $250, but it would take a while. In San Diego, I would expect it to sell pretty quickly.

I just ignore jerk emails, low balls, and any email offers for that matter. All sales are for cash, in person. If someone wants to make an offer, I tell them to come see it first.

I have had a couple of low ball in person offers. I politely tell them no thanks. I have more trouble finding good flips, than selling them.

$250 sounds fair for this bike. Agree with above post-ignore ridiculous low ball offers. This is a really nice bike with great parts-worth the asking price.
As an aside, I had advertised a European Ladies 3 speed bike in really nice condition for $115.00. Had a woman call me , came and saw it, test rode it, and then offered me $50 for it. I laughed at her and turned the bike around back to my shed. She said that I should call her if I would accept her offer-Told her not to wait by the phone.

+2. You would have no problem selling that bike for $250 here also. Good luck with the sale!

I had a very similar experience selling a bike earlier this year. "Dad" came with his daughter, test rode my bike extensively, shifted like an idiot, then came back and told me the bike was only worth $80 (I was asking $160 for the particular bike he was looking at), and offered to leave me his phone number so I could call him as soon as I wised up. I told him no thanks.

I sold that particular bike for full price to the next person that came to look at it a couple of hours later.
