I've never seen a KHS this old...

I got this KHS frameset a little while ago in exchange for cleaning up another bike for someone. I've never seen one this old, or with the World Champion stripes on it.

I'm building it up and giving it away.

Anyway, let's talk about this bike.

These use to come with 600 Arabesque bits... 80s Japanese. Tange tubing, 27" Araya rims. 82/3ish

tho this one is all Blue-line SunTour...looks very nice, and in that small size you should have no problem finding a woman who really wants it.
Is it Tange Champ No.1?

KHS used to have an ad with John Howard and a "pink turbo" in the early-mid 80's.

1984 - I note the 25 year warranty is now expired.

1985 - Note SPENCO gloves - those were awesome.

Other than the crank, the OP photo looks older than either of these.

I've seen one before that looked like early to mid seventies style. It was a 5 speed city bike with I believe cottered cranks, and it had a top tube shorty stick shifter with a chrome "console". If I had my camera I would have shot a couple of pics.,,,,BD

Founded in 1974, so the one I saw was probably about as early a KHS as there could possibly be.

Could the worlds stripes be from the Iron man?

Anyway, it was a naked frameset, I'm putting the blue-line stuff on it. I'll post some more pictures when it's done, I'm going to sit down with someone and help them put it together from the ground up, per their request. It'll be fun. Anyway, that's it, really.

I have two. One really small (48-50 cm) and one really big (63 cm). Both are rust buckets awaiting some inspiration. Seem to be middle-of-the-road bikes at a time where the middle of the road was rather narrow (70's).
