Cannondale is gone. Not to be pessimistic, but now that you know what to look for (for the most part), flim-flamming around on bikeforums is not going to land you or your bf with much more than a thread on bikeforums about how not to find a bike on craigslist.
...Unless you got the Cannondale, in which case, go Bills!
p.s. If you didn't get it, offer the Panasonic dude $250 and split the cost with your boyfriend for Christmas--that's a nice looking bike.

Size wise the Maruishi and the Panasonic look about right to me...............I think the Panasonic is likely a better one to bargain on. After seeing pics of the Maruishi it looks like it needs alot of love.

The Panasonic is the top of the line model from 1989, I actually thought about driving down to Buffalo for it last week since I had friends going down for some shopping. If you can get it for $250, it is a great deal.

And yeah, that C-dale has been taken down in the 2 hours since I linked it. Damned good deal for someone...it came with a trainer and a car-rack too....

Yeah, I emailed the guy and he responded and told me it was sold. Probably why he took down the link.
I wish I had a better idea of what a good deal was... if I'd seen that and known, I would have gotten it. Even though it's more than I want to spend. Guess I'll look into the Panasonic. It seems bigger than his old bike though - you guys don't think it's too big?

The Cannondale looks to be a bit of a project, but worth the price. It is a totally different size (a lot smaller) than other bikes you have posted. You really need to dial in the size. A good deal on a bike that is the wrong size is a bad deal. And a project to a handy person can make for a great deal. But for someone that needs/desires a bike ready to ride, it can be a bad deal.

I'd dial in on size if craigslist had any good options in my price range. I emailed the guy asking size. I think it's too small, yeah, but I'm emailing to make sure. I just was wondering if it was a good deal or not, so thanks for that info =)

Basically, a Cannondale in good, ready to ride condition is going to be worth about $250, sometimes more depending on the grade of components. They are well respected bikes. Hard to tell from one picture, but I would consider this bike a project (not ready to ride), so I would discount it from that price. The bike looks pretty decent, well worth a look. Check the frame paint, the Cannondales from the 1980s had really crappy paint. Other than that, Cannondale tended to use good parts and components to build their bikes. I have had six Cannondales in 2009, all of them had less than pristine paint.
I am guessing it is a pretty small frame, suited for someone in the 5-6 to 5-8 range or so.
A Cannondale at $150 price point would not last very long around here if it was in good cosmetic condition.
