vintage lemond bike question
there is a vintage lemond which has been on monterey cr for quite a while. ive never seen one quite like it before. it is a "team lemond" bike and is built up with super record parts. supposedly built by della santa. a very simple white and black paint job. were these bikes made for public sale or just for team members? dont think there are many around? wonder if its worth the 1485.00 the guy is asking for it. thanks....joe....happy holidays and keep riding

I remember seeing ads for those in Winning magazine after the 1986 tour win. They were not a real team bike. That was just the name of Lemond's brand in those early days. A very nice piece of cycling history too be sure but $1500 seems way way to much. Of corse that all depends on what it's worth to you.

I seen this Lemond on CL for several months. IIRC, he initially advertisd it for $1685, which I though was far too much. What I found off-putting was the ad itself. When the ad initially appeared it seemed to suggest that the bike was actually a team bike ridden in Le Tour, and challenging people to "do the research." I also found the ALL CAPS style of the ad, the emphasis on it being a collectors item for such a great deal, 4 variations of essentially the same pic, the lack of specific details about the bike, including size, to be off-putting. It just never sparked enough interest for me to check it out, even though it's essentially in my backyard.

The ebay auction shows:
----------
Item number: 170418318857 Winning Bid: US $624.00 Ended: 12/16/2009 4:00:03 PM
----------
Isn't that the same bike currently in the C&V For Sale sub-section? Seems to be getting some web mileage on it lately. 8-)

I am guessing it was this one, the ebay listing caught my eye because it was almost as obnoxious as the bike's paint scheme (but I actually love the paint scheme, it looks like how I imagine LeMond would want it):

But the bike Joe is refering to is this one:

Wow... back from the dead.
Yes, I still have the bike.
No, I haven't found any meaningful information on it.
Maybe, I will have a chance to ride it again this spring.
Vanbiker... -post photos please

I don't think this was built by Della Santa, atleast the "Made in Italia" decal would lead me to think that. Nice looking bike though victory yellow with a Triomphe group.

Just as I was thinking that this was one of the Bilato-built LeMonds from Italy, I spotted the Carnielli decal on the down tube.
Carnielli is a very old company that built Bottecchias for a long time, including my '72 Pro.
