That Rochet has some wonderful frame details, but there are some interesting components as well. Who did those gorgeously over-the-top hubs? They look like a custom treatment. Also, I'm curious about the wooden rims. Are they difficult to build up or maintain?

The wood rims are recent production Cerchio Ghisallo, an old Italian company. I've built three sets of these and don't find them much different from aluminum in terms of building. Wood is not as uniform (isotropic) a material as aluminum, so the behaviour somehow does not seem quite as predictable when tightening and truing, but there is no difficulty in getting them very round and true. As for durability, I don't have enough experience to comment, but I've heard from others that they are quite good. It may depend on how often you get them wet.

I bought this frame a couple of years ago on ebay.fr. It took me this long to decide to repaint it, partly because of the cost involved, but also because I hate to strip off original paint and decals, no matter how bad they are. The fork and stay ends should be chrome, but the original chrome was mostly flaked off and I couldn't face the expense, risk and usual disappointment involved in re-chroming. Obviously the seat post bolt is incorrect too, but on such an elegant frame I didn't want to use one of those clunky old bolts.

Hey, Congrats! Welcome to the club! I missed this when you first posted. You did a good job making that paint presentable. From here, you'd never know it was spray-bombed. If you're commuting with it, I hope you have a safe place to lock it up. How do you like the ride?

My first take on the photo was "wait, isn't that gaucho777's bike?"
You lads are billeted so close to each other you should definitely form a Look club!
jetboy - how's that MTB project coming along?

gaucho777 was the one who spied that the frame on CL was a 59cm (I think they had it listed as 56) and thus the purchase! Yes, its good in photos about 15 feet away. I wanted to build it up and ride it before I spent too much money making it pretty so those are all just decals from Velocals covering up most of the damage. you can see around the decals the white on off-white which I should have done better.
I have been riding her everyday (even in the rain.. I know I know.. ) and i friggin LOVE it. One day I'll get it resprayed properly but for now I am not looking at the paint while I ride!
and at work I leave it in my office. its got more chance of being stolen at my house.
edit: how did you know I was looking at MTB? I think you might have me confused with another because I don't remember posting about that! but anyway, its accurate. Next on the list is building up a MTB.. I am now satisfied with my road options.

I've just finished rebuilding this 1991 Peugeot Optimum 14 as a winter project. Apart from a few light surface rust spots it is in really good condition. 531 frame and forks, RX100 groupset, Mavic 192 NE wheels. It is a really fast ride, but unfortunately it is just a little bit too big for me. I must be shrinking in my old age.

Look at these new French Bottles I picked up. For the handlebars I love the blue and yellow. Now I know why these bikes were in the Tour De France, unbelievably fast!! Right now I clamped it with a t-shirt that was lying around. I'll have to order some bar tape to protect the paint.

That bottle pattern launched in the mid-'70's and came from REG (Rampinelli), the same company which made your bottle holder. The bottle was termed a "Thermic" as it had insulation. Who is the maker of these you have found?

Good Eye, It is actually a REG, I knew someone would notice it. I used the same tape I used for the handlebars. When I got the bottle it was so plain, but for 20 bucks I knew I had to do something with it, so I though I would share.
Its just 50 cent electrical tape around the REG bottle. I ordered another bottle and was going to put on a Peugeot decal, I saw some bottles are going over 70.00, so I thought I would just make my own.

The repaint is far superior to the original, one of the times when a repaint is in order in my opinion. Who knows where all the bikes went. Rumor they went as a group.

VeloBase.com - Component: REG 314 Thermic water bottle
Have only ever seen them in white.
How did that NT skewer find its way into your machine? I would have thought France had better border controls at this era.
Is blue lining original? First PX I have seen with it. Yours looks like ~1967. Purchased a new one in 1970.
