The brake bosses are brazed on, aren't they?

1979 PKN10. Had to replace the brake levers with some Shimano ergos, and the Simplex rear derailleur had a broken jockey wheel, so I replaced it a Suntour VX I was able to find locally. Also through on a new chain, new cables, and some kool stop brake pads. Otherwise the bike is all original. It actually had the original chain still on it, which was in surprisingly good condition. WHoever owned this bike previously took excellent care of it.

Okay, all you frog kissers, I'm thinking about restoring a late '60s Peugeot mixte frame.
(haven't bought it yet but it's in remarkably nice condition) Can anyone tell me off
hand the bb size? Is it too obsolete for me to find a square tapered bb that'll fit?
I just hate cottered cranks!

That's really nice, gioscinelli. The color combinations with the black half-hoods, black lever covers, black bottle cage, and black bar-tape and seat makes the white frame nicely set-off. Great job.

All the components are original except the saddle. The paint and decals are also original. Thank you, Mike

I just hate cottered cranks!
Two phrases come to mind....

Silk stocking on a rooster.... and, silk purse out of a sow's ear!

A few years ago I overhauled a lady friend's early 70s Peugeot U0-18 mixte.

Before:

After:

I was surprised at how well it rode and handled for a mixte... and a U0-8 (variant).

All of the threads on your Peugeot were originally French (metric).

French BBs were 35mm x 1mm. VeloORANGE sells square spindle Metric threaded BB cartridges for ~$50.00:

Grand Cru Bottom Bracket, French Thread - Bottom Brackets - Components

You can also find lots of Metric BBs on eBay. Also look on French eBay too.

I suggest that you try to find a cotterless crank complete with a bottom bracket. It will save you a lot of time matching everything up.

Good luck and have fun...

BTW, both BB cups have right hand threads.

THX Verktyg, I'm a big guy, but I've fallen in love with a mint condition '83 Univega
Sportour mixte I found advertised as 'woman's bike $60'. I don't think it had ever
been ridden. I swapped the 27x 1 1/4s for 700/40s, put on a 50/34 compact. I'm
guessing you're my age. I tour on this thing and none of the neighborhood kids can
catch me,(not in the first mile anyway). My masculinity is more threatened by the
top tube of my 63cm old school mtn. bike than by riding a mixte.

Love it!

I'm still not sure what model mine is or how to build it. With Campagnolo dropouts and chrome it's a bit of an anomaly. NR or Stronglight/MAFAC/Simplex? Or maybe a combination? Decisions, decisions ...

I allready wondered where that one had gone... Have no fear to go all French on it! I'm working on a late 70ies frame for my daughter, came with Dura ace (sticker &) components:

My first real 10 speed bike was the 74 Peugeot U08 mixte and enjoyed the bike and still have it! I've made several changes of the years and now the bike is used once a year by my wife. I still ride the Peugeot mixte, notice the rear carrier, that's to attached a infant seat for my grand daughter and still enjoy the ride.

I've had a couple mixte frames, & actually prefer them to a standard frame. They were originally
designed to be a light weight road racer, especially those with the steeper seat tube. Later the
angle was widened to accommodate touring. Sex had nothing to do with it, but somehow they're
thought of as trendy girl's bikes. Maybe it's just me, but I think they ride more smoothly and are
more agile than a regular frame. However they can be a bit squirrely, and toe strikes can happen,
if you're not used to them.

1986 Peugeot P10L

The only bike I've ever bought brand new
I updated the groups in 1987 to Shimano 1051

It now spends most of it's time on the Tacx turbo trainer from the same era, but occasionally goes out in the rain to save the Sunday bike

Raymond Poulidor, known for riding a pink Mercier for quite a long time, rode bikes of various builds, some full Campagnolo, some with mostly French equipment. If you look at period European bike racing publications you will spy Campagnolo hubs and Cinelli bar and stem on otherwise all French builds.

'72 Le Champion-
Finally started on assembly; going for the graveler / randonee. Should be a super plush rider with the bar/ 3TTT Record stem setup, B-17, lightweight soft sidewall Vittoria Cross-XN Pro 32c. Haven't decided on gearing but will keep it a 5 cog. Hope to match the frame paint for a 3/4 length ally mudguard set.

Folks, I have a French-threaded headset in my parts bin. It is new in the box. Brand is LightRace, and it's a copy of a popular old model of Stronglight. Let me know if interested. I don't need it.

I appreciate the thought, Tom. The guy just wants way too much for the naked frame which has a
fork & absolutely nothing else, and he won't budge. I could probably find a rideable PX-10 for what
he's asking, (eventually). Thx again.
