downtube shifter for Specialized Epic?

Hi guys
So I used to own a Puch Mistral force II that had some basic 6speed downtube shifters. Now I bought a Specialized Epic (CF frame) and I wanted to use them on the Epic, but it seems that they dont fit. Apparently the square portrusion that the shifter fits on is much too big for it to fit on.

From my research, I learned that specialized Epics are at their least 7speed with downtube shifting, so would I have to buy a set of downtube shifters?

Any help would be really appreciated

Photos to help out:

These are the 6speed shifters

This is the bike I want it to go on
(Specialized Epic)

THis is the bike it used to go on

Get a set of the concave collars that fit around the down tube on a steel bike.
Find some sandpaper, and sand off the back until they are flat on the back, about 1/4" thick.
Slide that over the shifter post, then put your shifter on.
Same problem affects some aluminum bikes and the carbon Ironman.

I'm guessing this is the problem. Pics would help.

Hello Deebo7 on the pic of your Puch there is a silver part on the shifter bosses. you need to take them off and then sand/file the back flat so they fit on the Epic. or maybe you can purchase a pair at your bike shop.

the parts look like this. once you get them off you should see what you need to do to make them fit the Epic

Exactly what I said, or meant to say. He needs the collar, and the collar needs to be flat on the back. Same exact situation with the carbon Ironman.
Maybe I should draw something.....it is kind of hard to explain. I just sold/traded two Ironman Carbon frames to gmouchawar, and he had precisely the same situation....twice.

YOU DO NOT TAKE ANTHING BUT THE CABLE STOPS OFF THE EPIC!!!!!!!!! take the silver shifter adapters off the Puch. once you do you will see the same square shaped boss on that frame. that should make it obvious what you need to do to the adapters to make them fit the Epic

Had the same issue and Robbie helped twice. Leave the bosses, you only need to sand down the collars just like Bianchigirll showed in her post.
