I have great friends - they bought me this vintage Pinarello!
Last September I ran across what I think is an early 80s Pinarello Dolomite on consignment at one of my favorite local bike shops. I took it for a test spin and loved the way it fit and felt but just never pulled the trigger. For months I talked about it and made friends stop in and see it on our Sunday rides. Finally, the bike was gone from the shop and I thought that was it.
Somehow my friends, with the help of my wife, tracked down the seller and bought it to give to me during a surprise 40th birthday party last weekend. I took out for a quick (hung over) ride yesterday and loved it. The 105 components are in great shape and it rolls like butter.

Great gift and bike. What year and model? On my 40th I got a new $7K engine for my Land Cruiser, which had blown about two weeks before.

Thanks everybody. I'm no Pinarello expert, but from what I've gleaned via general Googling, it's probably an early 80s. Model is Dolomite. Columbus Matrix tubing with Shimano 105 group.
Any other tips as to how to identify would be much appreciated.

I wish I did too! I've got to ask BGrayvy what day his birthday was, because I turned 40 on the 8th and all I got was this hat, a pair of window pane glasses and a necklace that says "I'm over the hill".
Very nice bike, congratulations! (Really I wouldn't trade what I've got at home for even two beautiful vintage bikes, maybe three...)

Ahh beauty! Love that blue with the white tape/hoods - if I were you I'd throw a white saddle on there as well.

I would like to take this opportunity to let all the North Texas C&V'ers that there is a Colnago at RBM I'm lusting after, and my birthday is in about 5 weeks. Good luck convincing the wife I need another bike, but hey it's my birthday.
Really nice Pinny you got there. It's about a million times more cool the way it came to be yours. Congrats!
