Attention! All boston area roadster and vintage 3-speed aficionados!
this weekend kicks off the 1st "official" boston roadster and vintage 3-speed club meeting!
what is it? well, maybe you can help define that. a handful of us local 3-speed lovers are getting together tomorrow eve (sat., 5pm) at open bicycle, union square, somerville. the agenda? chat, learn more about your vintage ride, including how to do repairs, upgrades or restorations. hands-on time optional and encouraged! my saddlebag overfloweth with 3-speed tools, so bring that loose cotter! bring that clunking bottom bracket! bring that randomly freewheeling hub that hurled you over the handlebars to your near death! (maybe it won't get fixed, but maybe you'll learn how to tackle it yourself). or, just kick back and enjoy conversation. the format is open, and we'll see where things take us. who knows... once nicer weather arrives, we may also organize area rides.
open has generously granted us use of their space for club events. we can use their workspace, or just lounge about, chat and snap some photos. this started from an idea tossed around between BF member veloria (blog: lovely bicycle!) and myself, to get to know other area 3-speed lovers, check out some neat rides, take some photos, learn some tips and tricks, and help others learn to care for their rides. between veloria's impeccable sense of bike aesthetics (who do you think convinced me to outline my shogun lugs in gold despite my doubts?), my infatuation with bike tools and tearing down sturmey archer hubs even when they're working fine, our shared obsessional attitudes toward vintage bikes, and any thing else brought to the table by other area vintage bike geeks, it should be an interesting evening... hope to see you there!

I can't make it tomorrow but would definitely be interested in future meetings and especially interested in future rides.
Have fun and wish I could come, it sounds great.

Can't make it this time & season. But I used to live on Walnut Street out of Union Square. Before the WPOD (white punks on dope) burned the building down.
