Kooka levers, how do you tell?

I have a set of NOS looking Kooka MTB style levers, and I was wondering how you tell if they're V brake or Cantilever? I am thinking they might be V brake only, given the time they were made, am I right? I would love to use them for a project I am working on, but it has a U brake in back, and canti's in front. I take it V brake levers would pull too much cable maybe, or is it not enough?,,,,BD

And yes I've heard they don't grip too well on handlebars. They will be used on an upright ridden bike, and no real stress will be put on them.,,,,BD

The difference is simply the distance between the pivot point and where it grabs the cable end. Ones for linear brakes have a somewhat longer distance than ones for canti brakes. I do not remember the two measurements off-hand, but it is pretty obvious which it is if you line it up against a known one. Even by eye.

Depending on other factors (and tastes for brake feel), you can use linear levers on center-pull brakes. But the other way around does not really ever work well enough.

Nice levers, btw. You sure you want to bury these on a hybrid? I thought Lee Chee was the Campy of hybrids.

What he said.. but I am having a hard time deciding myself... you need to mock 'em up against something else... notice they don't have the cable anchored in a pivoting attachment so they aren't "linear pull" which usually means cantilever lever.... but the pivot to anchor point distance looks pretty far... either way... i think you should throw them on and just see what happens.

Not a hybrid, more of a large framed lugged Panasonic MC2500 mountain bike, with Nitto swept back bars. Of course I wanted to use a Nexus 7 speed too, and the bar curvature
killed that plan, so I may switch my goal eventually. Either the frame, or the bars. They require a comically long stem to get them away from my knees.,,,,BD
