Full Moons, Coyotes and A Miyata Six Ten
I've been very restless lately...... Not sure why I feel the need to try to race against time, which there is never enough of, but riding a bike is the only thing that washes it all away.
While waiting for my Porteur bars and some misc parts to arrive from Velo Orange and Rivendell later next week, I stayed up till 10pm working on the 610 on Fri night.....
Old 27" wheels off, vintage Wolber GTX on after installing new rim strips, inner tubes and scratching up 2 good tires.
Fluted SR post off, slightly longer polished 600 post on....
Stock Miyata saddle off, Ideale on...
Best of all, my trusty old Kirtland Tour handlebar pack on....
Suntour Bar end's will go on as soon as VO gets me the Porteurs and Jandd sends my Extreme Hi/Lo front rack .... then it's off to see Jon at GrinderBikes
I arrived at the Museum of Science and Nature before sunrise and decided that watching the day dawn would be good for my soul
Dawn in Denver and a solitary Coyote; As the day was breaking I looked around and there was just myself and a sweet grandmother watching the transition to daytime. The coyote literally appeared out of nowhere and was feeling sociable. I gave here a "head's up" that she wasn't alone down there and just left it at that. My experience has been that they will generally leave you alone and if they don't you can just raise your arms and make lots of yelling noise and they will run off. I'm guessing that they've been displaced around Denver as "progress" encroaches on their habitat.
That special "in between time" when the dark has ended and day takes over.....

Enough pictures, time to get back on the road. As the moon was sinking into the Rockies, I was lingering and thinking of J.D. Salinger and the first time that I read "Catcher.."

While the Six Ten performs beautifully on the road, even with these monster tires, the real machine came out on these groomed gravel paths. It is an absolute pleasure to ride and this was one of the most special rides that I've had in many moons...

It was time to hit my special spot for some warm, fresh Apple Croissants and then home to spend time w/ the dogs.....
https://i735.photobucket.com/albums/w...f/IMG_1548.jpg
Looks like they have something special planned for that dirty old parking lot in back...A hidden outdoor beer garden/ coffee terrace.....
https://i735.photobucket.com/albums/w...f/IMG_1549.jpg
Back to the gritty city to continue with my day...
https://i735.photobucket.com/albums/w...f/IMG_1550.jpg
What you see is simply a temporary configuration; When she's done I hope to vanish into the Rockies for an extended bicycle camping tour....

OH does the notice have to be that big? is that so the starbucks guzzlers in their giant suv cars can see it as we zoom by enroute to Bloomingdales?
PS you need a nice pair of x28 Panaracer Palesa tires with the tan skinwall

No kidding ehh!? I guess that it's gotta be big so everyone can have an equal opportunity to b*tch & moan if they don't like the idea. Shouldn't be a problem for it to pass. The shop owners are socially/enviro responsible, outstanding small independent business owners.... I should ask Eric, the coffeehouse owner to post a pic of his "one-off" all chrome early 80's Vitus roadie to this forum....

Enjoyed the read and make me wish more that 610 I had was my size.

Nice pics! I hear you about the effect of fat tires on a nice DB frame when on unpaved trails. Nothing like it. I've put fatter tires on my bike, and now it feels like a rabbit fur-lined glove.
Funny, we now have coyotes even in southern Connecticut, 5 miles from New Haven. They seem to be adapting to urbanized environs, eating rabbits, turkeys when they can, along with cats, smaller dogs, etc. Every so often some uninformed dog owner lets their larger dog offlead in the presence of a coyote with tragic results.

Coyotes are a lot more prevalent then people think. They are night animals and stay hidden in the day.
I live in a Heavily populated suburb of Atlanta. We were down wind and a Coyote didn't smell us and came up on us unexpectedly as I was standing with my kid at the bus stop at dawn last spring. They normally will avoid humans. They thought it was a stray dog and didn't realize they were in real danger.
I saw it before it saw me. My 7 year old the neighbor and neighbor kids got a quick lesson in being big and making a LOT of noise to scare it off.NEVER turn your back and run. It will see you as prey and chase you down. Start yelling and waving arms above head and they turn tail and run.
The big pile of dung between my Drive and my neighbors drive makes he and I think we have a bear in the area as well. I know we have fox den in the unkempt part of my other neighbors yard. The Ferrel cats the crazy lady up the street feeds is way down so not a bad thing. They will move on as the food supply depletes.
