Opinions on this crankset?

Does anyone know where the Apex series is in the Sakae SR hierachy? 106 bcd doesn't seem very common (if I wanted to swap chainrings)? Would I run into any issues using this on a mid 80s Fuji road/touring bike?

Believe I've seen apex on some french bikes. Not a bad price for the whoe set up. Can't tell from the photo if its swagged or forged. Need to find out your bb axle measurements. If it dosen't fit-resell!

I'm pretty sure this is a swagged crankset. I don't think it is very high up the list of top quality sets, but it would work/look well on a mid seventies bike like a Fuji, or similar.

I have an Apex on a late 70s Centurion Elite I picked up.

If you are looking for a touring bike, you would be better off with a triple.

IMHO, NOS vintage parts are often overvalued on ebay. Your bike is used, I would get a used crankset in good condition instead. It is nice that it comes with a new bb, if you happen to need one of those.

Also consider a donor bike, I paid a small fraction of the BIN price on this auction for my Centurion, which came with a nice wheelset (Weinmann concave alloy rims), good crankset and bb, derailleurs, handlebar, stem, brakes, etc. Frame was rough paint wise. You get the idea.

This is a very basic bottom of the line SR crankset. It is only a 3 arm version, which means that you will have more flex while pedalling hard. For $25 for the entire shabang, it is worth it. For $50 or $60, forget it.Not sure if the chainrings are replaceable. I agree with the above post-better to find a used 5 arm crankset-triple.

Low in the hierarchy and I wouldn't pay any more than the opener. Silly thing to put a reserve on really.

I agree w/ jack.
But I think it looks cool. However, if you ever wanted to change chain rings, you're SOL.

Based on the non-fluted spider, is appears to be a Super Apex 3, in which case it is forged in one piece and not swaged. Regardless of whether it is an Apex 3 or Super Apex 3, the chainrings should be interchangeable, though you may have difficulty finding replacements.

I haven't noticed that my 3 pin crank is overly flexible, but maybe I'm not strong enough to bend it.
