Shimano 600 side pull brake install! Help!
Hi,
So I have an 80s Italian frame (Battaglin) for which I managed to get some Shimano 600 caliper brakes. The problem is that the rear brake bridge does not have a circular shape for me to put the concave washers on. Should I replace these with non concave metal washers, or is there any other option? I've attached a picture so that someone can help me out. Also how does the front caliper go on? Again, I'm assuming that the concave washers cannot be used for the front either and it would have to be a flat washer. thanks for all the help! My build is stuck because of this problem!
cheers
Bob

The point of those surfaces is to relieve you of the need to use concave washers. Just put them in your parts bin. If you need to pad up the space, use regular washers.

+1 agree Noglider. however I recomend using a 'starwasher' your LBS likely has some to help anchor the brake in place. I am suprised there isn't one in the hardware already. put one between the caliper and the bridge. there is one I like better but I can't find one anywhere.

Thanks all for the help. The original hardware did come with one star washer in it, but since I have washers on the other side of the brake bridge and the caliper unit is still not firmly fixed, I assume I'll have to use a star washer on both sides? Or should I have the star washer touch the frame directly- right now it is against a regular flat washer that touches the brake bridge. I didn't want to scratch the frame if i could avoid that, but if that's the only way then, oh well...thanks again for all the help!

I just watched the biketutor.com video on how to adjust a sidepull brake. I find it to be incomplete. I promise I'm going to make a video of my own on how to set up a sidepull brake. I don't need no stinkin' star washer.
OK, a star washer helps, but I don't need it.
