red leather bar tape from... thriftstore
Someone recently suggested going to a thrift store and buying a leather jacket to make bar tape out of... well, i found a pair of large red suede paints... and well, the pictures show the rest.
i also used the WD40 trick on the break hoods that was recently discussed... worked great!

Did you cut it in one continuous strip per side (which would mean you would have to do a couple of 180s?) or?
I have a pile of thrift store leather goods right now, in many colors.

Cool idea. I'm also curious about how you constructed the strips - whether you made one continuous per side, or whether some other strategy was used. Am also interested in knowing whether they were glued or taped, or whatever to hold the wraps in place. Looks pretty nice. My only concern might be with the edges lifting.

Orange pants? Pretty retro mid 70's. Brown Brothers perhaps?

For extra points, reconstruct the red trousers into a pair of Bavarian-style *****exualist Lederhosen cycling shorts, and ride round town shouting ´Wilkommen!´at random strangers.

I used 4 strips total - 2 per side. each strip was cut from pant cuff to beltline - it actually worked out quite nice. I tried doing one continuous strip first with a 180... but i couldn't get the leather to lay nicely on the bar with a funky "turn" in the leather, so i ended up having to cut out the turn part leaving me with 2 strips per side.

You may get a phone number. You may get beat up by a particularly tough lesbian for poor accessorizing.
But you'll know you're among friends.

The one problem I see with that is there is at least one vertical seam in the pants I have. So you would be getting a seam every eight inches or so. That's a creative idea worth an attempt on a thrift store garment.

That's awesome! I'd never have thought of that. I just bought a Miyata yesterday, though of far lesser quality than your 1000, it's a sports ten. But I think I'm going to steal your idea, thanks for posting that.

Couldn't you cut a really long continuous spiral up the legs, and get it all done in one piece?
Do you wear platform heal shoes when riding now?
