Curious (Super) Record shifter from c.83 - ratcheting??

Just had this item added to VeloBase by one of the members. I'd like to get some additional information on them if possible:

They are rare, they are curious. They are short lived, like 1984, 1985.

Retro-friction "Super Record" shifters. Almost neglected at the time.

Much more expensive than the standard friction levers. And less handsome than the retro-friction Corsa Record levers before Syncro.

Quietly introduced, quietly withdrawn.

Wow. First time I've seen them.

Have to dig up a pair for myself

they function as the simplex ones do, with a retro spring. Except that I've never been able to buy a set on eBay, because they rapidly outstrip my means. I didn't know that they made one for each side, though. the ones I've seen offered are only right side retro.

Looks like an early version of the "Doppler" retrofriction levers.

So JDT and all you other wizards, can you tell me what these two sets are? I'm still pretty much a noob. Is the first photo the 'Doppler' shifters?

the second set is a set of simplex retrofrictions. I think that these are the best of the breed, given availability and cost.

Campy C-Record shifters came in several flavors...I have a set that are just like the old Record shifters, several varieties of click shifters, and a couple of sets of retrofrictions. I think I used these when I put the Merckx together, but it has been a long winter and I don't really remember. The retrofrictions have a semi-sealed arrangement inside that is opened with a very small pin wrench. The clickers all, um, click, once they are mounted to the bike.
