+1 on fixing up the Glider. That's a nice one. Depending on how tall you are, those riser stems can be good things on a 21" Sports. The missing seat wouldn't bother me much either. A Brooks or a Persons is a whole lot nicer than those original Mattress saddles.

I've never seen those mounts on a Glider, or any Raleigh bike before. My guess would be that the lug on the right fork leg would be for a bottle generator.
The decorative fork cap is different too. Usually they are plain. Looks like a higher end model. Really nice bike. The threaded lug on the chainstay is a mystery to me. A cable pulley mount? edit: 40 bucks is a whale of a deal. You've had more than your share of luck lately. |

I have a Glider which has none of the additional mounts. The fork caps are plain chrome, nothing fancy. The serial number is stamped into the lug just forward of where yours is. The last 4 digits are 3564. It appears there are possibly 3 other digits before those which I can't read. It came with a chrome front fender . The AW hub shows 1976 as the year but I don't know if it is original.

The Glider will be going to a new home down the road, preferably a former student or friend and as such I want to keep the cost down.I enjoy the time spent working on the bikes so sell at cost to deserving college students. I think I can keep the costs on this one to about $75.00 (or less) CDN. It's already supplied several nice parts to other projects that will be replaced with good parts. The Eaton's Glider is a Raleigh Sports in a different suit, their quality is identical to their British cousin.
There were great numbers of them sold here in Canuckistan so they are still relatively easy to find and often come to us in beautiful condition, like other raleigh sub brabds they tend to come in brighter colours. |
Gliders are also common here in the border states. Families, along with their possessions tend to straddle the line. Research into this rare model might well run into a dead end, but if it were mine, I'd give it a try. This is no ordinary Glider/Sports. It would make a great project if the original specs were known.
