Bicycle Repair Man !!!

The 24 inch wheel conversion required some frame work and a new fork... but it was nothing extreme to do relative to some other projects I have done. The original 500A wheels and tyres were far too obscure to be practical so I opted for a more common size.
The Kingpin is a really nice bicycle with a well made frame and very nice hinge mechanism, and it is fairly light too.

Speaking of Paul Bunyan, I'm hoping this weekend to do a 3-speed ride up the Paul Bunyan trail in Minnesota. I will probably start at Nisswa and go to Pine River, about 22 miles. Should be some fall colors up there somewhere!

Replaced the tires on the Hercules in the last couple of weeks. About 4000 miles, zero flats, mostly commuting/city riding on the Kenda K40's, the cord started to show. Pleased with these. Care to guess what I replaced them with? (Hint, it's the same thing)

Some of my spoke nipples were rusted and cracked. If anyone is rebuilding their wheels but wishes to keep the spokes as I did, these spoke nipples are what I used:

Heh. @Velognome, it's a 52T chainring and a 16T cog. It does look big, and I love the way it looks. The whole bike is so sprightly, I guess because it's light and has fat-ish tires (32mm). Since the hub only steps down, by gear inches are 55, 66, and 88. The cranks are a tiny 155mm, which I expected to feel weird, but they don't at all.

I use the Sports all around town when I'm not commuting. I've got folding baskets on mine for shopping, it's just right for tootling around Manhattan. Mine's a '66 and Adina's is a '72 Ladies with a wicker basket on the bars. They go together nicely.

Did any Schwinns ever ship with Sturmey AW hubs?
There's someone at my jobsite that commutes on a very old Schwinn women's bike, and it had an old AW hub on it. It's smooth-surfaced, with a metal oil port. I didn't try to get a date code off of it. I'm not sure if it was originally equipped with the hub, or if it was retrofitted later. The bike itself isn't in particularly good shape, but not bad for its age.

Schwinn "lightweights" such as the New World, Superior, and sometimes even the Paramount, came with Sturmey Archer hubs in the 40's-50's.

All three-speed Speedsters I've encountered had Aw hubs. I cleaned up a '59 Speedster (step-through frame) for my niece a few months ago that had a metal oil port cap. I don't know when they switched to plastic caps.

Here's a quick project that I was working on last weekend. A 1964 Raleigh built 3 speed for Eatons of Canada. I t still have a few details to finish but all and all a nice ride.
