Well, I hope you were able to burn that coal and generate some heat! The Boston area is thick with old 3-speeds of various sorts. It's also thick with bike flippers who think old 3-speeds are worth a small fortune, but every now and then a bargain appears, particularly if one is willing to tinker. I actually bought two different lady's Sports for parts to put on the Superbe.

I wanted a bronze green one because my dad had a bronze green Raleigh when I was a kid, and I wanted a Dynohub, but the deals have always fallen through for one reason or another. Now I'm so used to my plain old black Sports, which I've slowly been updating, that I'll keep riding it.

nlerner, does your LED bulb flash? I bought an LED bulb and it flashes nicely with the AC from the generator hub, I use something else for a real headlight. I also put an LED in the taillight and it strobes nicely as well.
I have another question for anyone here, when I turned 7yo, 1958, my parents bought me an "English Racer". I was the first kid in our small town with one, I really can't remember much about the bike except that it was red and was a three speed. I can't remember if it had 26in wheels or something smaller and don't remember if the top tube was straight or curved. My question is did Raleigh import some bike small enough for a 7yo in 1958 and if so what model.

Oh, yeah, it flashes, thought at speed it's hard to notice, and it is quite bright.

My '77 3-speed Sprite is my next project. I believe it's on the 25" Record/Grand Prix frame. It looks to be all there- except for the rear wheel/hub mounting hardware. All I have is the right side nut, a broken indicator nut, and one of the serrated dropout washers. So, I'm getting a new indicator nut, another dropout nut, and a pair of outer serrated washers. What I need to know is what other hardware I need for the rear wheel, like spacers, washers, etc...

Since I'm here...

I came across the Felt Verza Regency. I did a search here, but almost nothing on them. It's new, not C&V, but has anyone tried one? The local shop has them (2012 models) on clearance for $435- down from $700. It has the same frame sizes as a Sports. That's awfully close to the price on a BD/Windsor Oxford Deluxe model...

nlerner, Yes mine will also become a steadier light at speed, I don't frequently ride at that speed, I'm old and slow, hence another battery powered light for lighting the road.
Thank you for the link, I don't believe I've ever come across that site. One of these days my memory will get just a little bit better and I'll remember more, yeah right. Some things are lost forever in the human mind it seems.

@noglider I gave it a cursory look today on my way into work.I was pretty impressed. I have to say on the floor it looks gorgeous. I'm going to go in tomorrow and give it a test ride I have some questions and see how I like it, but I have to say it's a probable purchase. This one is a new 2012, they quit offering them in 2013 So this might be the only chance.it appears. Full report?

Looks really nice. Chaincases really help keep your chain clean. Agree with noglider, front fender doesn't quite come down far enough.

Yes the fenders are on the short side, so flaps are a fine suggestion. The weight is about 34.5 lbs,

Thanks to the weather the riding's been pretty limited. I rode for about 10 minutes on the test ride yesterday around a vast parking lot- lots of rain later. I took it today around town, but the dropping temps and a 10 kt. wind made this pretty unfavorable for anything long. Compared to the older stuff it's light- not cheap. no clunkiness. Quick, rides nice and smooth relaxed. I really like the Nexus and coaster brake combo. I know a front brake ia nice safety addition, but I like the simplicity of one cable. I'll have more when I can get longer times in. The saddle so far, feels great.

Do ask on anything else.

The 2013 listed for $719- the clearance price was $435. there were two in stock- I got the XL 23"- which feels more like 24".

Just an update for those interested. I have an appt. with the seller of the Phillips with the 3 Speed SA Dyno hub on Tuesday. Still not sure I really want to take this on. On a nicer point, one of the mechanics at my LBS is going to give me his personal cotter press - he got it from an old bike shop & rarely uses it. I told him that I don't own any bikes, yet, with cottered cranks and he quickly quipped, "You will!"

You mean that someone's giving me a cotter press? Yeah, right....no kidding. That's such a sweet gesture. I'm a regular customer there & I think they appreciate that I'm learning about bicycles. Sometimes I end up revealing some obscure factoid to them.

Yes! Two! One telling us it's not suitable for riders under 12, and another so that we know to read the owner's manual before operating.

I'd like to take them off, is it against Federal law or something? Would the NSA know?

If anyone wants new and isn't as tall as me, they have a 21 incher men's left....
