Ninth Annual Greater Chicagoland Spring Classic & Vintage Ride

NOTICE: Due to the weather, rain, wind and 40F, Saturday’s ride has been changed to Sunday. Sorry for any inconvenience.

WHAT: Open invitation to a ride for anyone who reads this post, and their friends. Riding your vintage bike is highly encouraged but all bikes and riders are welcome. This is a no drop ride but there is no SAG support.

WHEN: Sunday April 26, 2015. Meet at 8:30, start ride at 9:00 am.

WHERE: Crystal Lake Main Beach Parking Lot - here

FORMAT: A nice leisurely 40-mile ride, flat as a pancake, fish tacos at the end of the ride. This is the route. I will have a print out of the map and cue sheet at the start of the ride.

No-Drop rule, B-group speed.

Only moral support is provided. You must provide your own fluid/food for the ride. There is a stop at a quiky mart at the halfway point for food and drink.

WHY: This is meant as a social ride. It is an opportunity for vintage bike enthusiasts, friends and acquaintances to get together and meet, and ride together in a group. And eat some great tacos, or torta, or burrito or whatever floats your boat. Last year's ride - https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...tage-ride.html

Feel free to bring any other riders as well, but remember this is not an “organized event”. This is simply a large group ride.

Please spread the word to anyone else you think might be interested.

Rode a portion of the route today. Looks nice. Still covered with salt, sand and other grime, but no severe potholes. Probably because we haven't had a lot of freeze/thaw cycles, just the one. A good rain would help but I think snow is in the forecast Sunday night.

I think I might be able to do it too.

No point in bringing a 3-speed, I take it?

I always intend to make this, but I think this year it will be possible. Choice of four machines: 1984 (+/-) Mondonico, 2005 ELOS Mondonico, Terraferma, and 1984 Trek 610 mule - an embarrassment of riches! I should bring the Masi, but it is just too small, and it doesn't have the gearing for me to train well in Michigan. BUT, if I can train most weekends this month, I should be good for 40 miles!

Last year I rode a 4 speed. The year before that, a 3 speed, that I never shifted.

Flat as a pancake.

I'm in!!!! Great tacos! Great people, quiet roads, good times! :-) There are 2 actual hills and a couple of rollers, but the rest is "as flat as a pancake" Now I have to think about which bike to bring, that's always the hard part!

This looks promising for me and maybe a couple friends. You need to have a head count by a certain date?

Down wind both ways also. Seriously, last year he took us to a "hill." Those of us from Michigan died laughing, I never got off my large chainring. I plan to be there, I think I'll bring my other faux vintage this year.

Hey now.

That's about the best we can muster in these parts.

To make it interesting again, koh gets free tacos, paid by yours truly.

I'm probably not being fair. The "hill" was truly adorable.

Sorry, all, to have to miss it again but I am flying to Germany that day, for work.

Two week bump.

Rode the course on a nice bike. Big storms came through on Thursday which cleaned the winter grime off of the roads. Nice not to not ride the commuter. Things look great out there.

Have a great ride, I'll be in the process of relocation to southwestern Illinois for the next couple of weeks. I'll see you all in Wisconsin, I expect.
