1987 Dyno Compe BMX frame

I have always wanted one and now have the money to get a BMX to rebuild. im 5'11" and 275lb will this frame hold me for easy to moderate riding with my 6 yo son around the house and more than likely the bike park?

From the old add it's all chromoly. I know that all the new frames are made from chromoly. I almost have everthing else to complete this frame in my garage. Just wondering if its worth the time or not?

I don't know much about BMX, but, Cro-mo is good stuff, I'd say it's worth it if the frame fits you.

Freestyle frame. For just regular cruising around you'll be OK.

First, it's good to hear you're looking into a BMX frame! While I love bicycles in almost all forms, to me BMX is on another level of fun. Your son is a lucky kid! As for a suitable frame for you, there are two issues with the Dyno you're looking at:

1) The 18.75" tt is way short by modern BMX standards. Only the *small* flatland frames of today have TT's that short. IMHO, if you really want to enjoy BMX (and it can be ridiculously fun!), at 5'11 you'd be MUCH better off on a contemporary geometry, with a 21" top-tube or thereabouts.

2) that Dyno is not designed for your stocky build. Frames from about the mid-90's to about 2005 are much better suited to a guy your size, as they used much stouter tubing and stronger dropouts. The ones made in the past 5 years are much lighter, and I think they have gotten far too light at the expense of durability (sound familiar?)

I'm 6'0 and I ride a 20.5" frame, and that's about 3/4" shorter than a guy my size would normally ride. Look for frames made by S&M, Kink, Standard or FBM within the past 15 years and your likely to find a good deal as well as a very good frame. S&M and Standards are sometimes highly sought after, but once in a while you'll get lucky.

This frame is listed as a Standard 250s, but it's actually a Standard STA (which is a very good thing):

Here's an S&M Dirtbike frame for sale:

Here's one I'm drooling over:

Here's a T-1 moody for sale, barely a year old, made in the USA:

And here's a Take ivy frame:

Yep. The double tubes on both sides of the seat tube were designed for standing on.

Jumping @ 275 lbs? Forget it with a vintage BMX bike. You'd need one of the newer jump specific BMX bike for that. If you want to run some basic non-thrashing laps at the track a vintage BMX would be OK. Dyno's were entry level GT's. Have you considered a GT?

I have 2 GT mountain bikes now and love the brand! Also most of the parts I have for the BMX are all mid to late 90s GT parts ( I believe ) what I need to do is keep the cost down where I do Granite kitchens its been slow in FL I have tried to trade an Aggressor frame fo a BMX frame with no luck. I will keep looking and i will find one so 1995 to 2005 Chromoly BMX with a 21" TT at least. No go on Aluminum?

looks like a nice project for $20. all you need is wheels and pedals both of which should not be much more than $100 (depending on quality). when you build it up just ignore the 'gyro' for the freestyle front brake cables

OH if you can look before you buy, look real close at the bottom of the headtube and besure the cup is in tight nor is it showing signs of cracking or bulging from abuse
