Help ID This Stronglight Chain Ring

I got this 40t ring from a LBS for a buck. Tried to install it on the 93 crank, all the holes lined up then I realized the chainring holes were too small. What's the deal? Is this thing defective or is it for different Stronglight crank?

No, you need the right chain ring fastners. Mine is identical and works fine on my crank.

I bought a 40 like that. I don't know which crank it's for, but the holes are too small for a 93. I solved the problem by drilling out the holes and countersinking with my drill press.

I think its the older 63's(?) that had the smaller bolts, but I'd really have to check VB and/or CR to verify the correct information, but is is an older Stronglight standard.

Edit: CR had the answer. The 57s used 8mm bolts, the 63s adopted [current] 10mm standard.

It may also be for a model 49 crank.

I have a TA Pro with that size hole. SJX426 is correct, I think the only difference is the chainring bolt size.

Ok but it was destroyed in an accident last May. Three broken bones, yada yada yada..... Pedals are easily replaced for back to vintage. I bought the bike used in 73 and it looked like it does in the pictures then. It hung in variousgarages over 30 years and then I brought it out and started riding after 30 years. Wish I could find a replacement (72)

Sorry for what happened to you and the Le Champ. I remember about your story awhile back. I wish mine is blue and white. What size is yours?

Smaller bolts won't fit the front ring or the 93 crank. Drilling out the holes is the solution. Countersinking is not required, but it looks better. The ring is identical in all respects to a 93 ring, but the holes are smaller.

LOOK introduced their clipless pedals into the market in the 1984/85 seasons, and many bikers, including me with my PP76 upgraded their quill pedals to clipless right at that time. That is 25 years ago and certinaly falls into the classic category, so clipless is kewhl on classic bikes and cranks Adding it to a slightly older bike then would be a common thing.....now, brifters..........those are not kewhl!.....ergobars, unfortunately, are acceptable......

Sure, if you put clipless on a bike from the 80's, but on a '72 French bike!?!? How about a carbon seatpost on a 70's Molteni, since carbon fiber tubing been around since the 70's.

GB - what was then defined as 24".
Hey, I still have the origianl pedals and cages. The clipless were for riding! I also had KoolStops, was that also a bad thing? I did lub everything with period Campy grease! Bought it in 73 and it is still good. Oh I upgraded the brake housings too. Oh yea, I put a Ultra Six freewheel on as well, but still have the original freewheel.
