I think I finally get the whole Italian thing...
I had never owned a proper Italian framed road bike before (my Bianchi was Japan built) before, and today I took the first ride on my new to me Simonelli with Columbus SLX tubing. Oh. My. God. I have never ridden a road bike before that just begged for more road! I picked it up from an online moving sale on craigslist, spent a lot of time cleaning it (especially the chrome) and put new tires and tape. (pictures will follow, all I have is the one pre refurbish) I will post it anyway (no pictures no bike )
just imagine it cleaner with red cork tape.
This bike is so smooth, the Shimano 600 components showed now wear (the rd had the protective sticker over the logo still!

It's not just Italian manufacture. There are materials, geometry, crafstmanship, and paint/finish quality that all go into the package.
That being said, if a frame builder is going to spend the bucks on SLX tubing, it's unlikely he/she would not maximize their efforts towards a great frame.

My Dad recently moved into a care home off of Dutton and I've picked up a couple of bikes from garagesales while driving through. A Paletti and a nice donor Mt bike. That Simonelli is sweet.

I would be embarrassed to tell how little I paid for it.. This I think will now be the bike I judge all other (road) bikes by, much as my KHS Alite 4000 does for mountain bikes for me.
I no longer regret giving my son my Bianchi now

Some aren't as pretty as that, maybe a bit beatup, but it's bang for the buck, right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0C6xEo-ijH0
