Yup. Those bikes are pretty highly sought after. One on eBay now.

Here's my new-to-me Merckx Titanium AX. Still trying to figure out what year it is and searching for a Campy group to replace the Shimano one on there... Eventually I think just about everything on this frame you see pictured here will be replaced but here is how she sits now:

My New Corsa 01

I just finished my rebuild of my '96, '97? Corsa 01.

I think everything went together pretty well.

Build consists mostly of Campy Athena components, Cinelli bars and stem, Campy Mexico '68 rims, and a Sella saddle. I found some cool Merckx Podio pedals as well. I have a very nice, era specific Chorus rear derailleur, but could not get it to work with my Ergo shifters for some reason. I ended up having to put on a newer era Record derailleur instead which works great. I'm a bit of a Newbie at this so go ahead and tell me where I went wrong.

Here's some pics.

Great looking Corsa 01. I was always curious about those. How's the ride? And how do you like those pedals?

Just got it done and it's been raining here and haven't had a chance to get on it yet. Hopefully this weekend. The pedals seem pretty straight forward. Just slide your foot forward into them. When I go for a ride I'll see how much play I get in them.

Have to agree with you there. I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on period correctness & component choices but I have to say....that's a gorgeous bike.

I finally got my Merckx up and running, it is kind of a tank but it is a smooth ride. It's a Corsa Extra team bike from the Telekom pro team and was ridden by Olaf Ludwig (the number hanger is hard to see against the brick wall, my bad). The fork is a MXL/Leader fork which I presume would have been put on the bike because Ludwig was a sprinter. The stem is crazy long, 140mm, I can't imagine how fit these guys must be to ride in a racing position for hours at a time.

Just cleaned up and readied the 85 Corsa Extra for the fall season. Or an excuse to revive this old, but excellent thread..

New stuff included a Miche 28T cog and 50T 135 bcd outer ring for a slight change in the 8sp gearing.

I also had so much peeling paint on the the chromed BB shell that I stripped it out to the lug line and polished it a bit:

Nice looking Merckx, Jan.

What size is that frame(I'm thinking 59-60)?

Close to perfection: would look even better with a cassette on the rear wheel.

Are those Challenge PRs?

If so, how do you like them so far?

Thanks Gomango. Yes those were PRs. Wonderful riding tires, looked great but sadly didn't hold up very well. Had one casing fail after just a few rides (before getting any flats), put on a replacement and rode maybe 500 miles before giving up on em. Got too many flats and they cut easily. I really wanted to like these...
