Likely a '72. It probably had a Huret RD originally. And that stem looks like it's adjusted a little too high - probably beyond it's height limit, if it's the original GB. Nice bike.

The fact that that VERY NICE BIKE has Simplex shifters and front derailleur suggests that it came with Simplex. Some of them came that way. It's in amazing condition, and the fenders are a nice addition. Agree that you should lower the stem to prevent serious injury!

Those solid color Cheng Shins are horrible, as much as I hate to say it. They flat if you look at them wrong, and they zap any little ounce of speed you try to get out of a bike. It's almost like they're glued to the pavement, and I mean in a bad way. Really high rolling resistance. They're the same tires as the low quality gumwalls.,,,,BD

I was looking at Continental Grand Prix 4000 tires. They come in sort of blue, and I've had really good luck with gatorskins. A lot of the reviews on Amazon complained about sidewall blowouts, but they said the same thing about gatorskins and I've been riding on those for quite a few years with pretty good luck. Any thoughts, guys?

Here's some goofy orange-and-blue MTB business I put together myself last winter when I had too much time on my hands. As you can see from the seatpost, it's way too small for me, but for some reason I actually ride it quite often.
Love the mtb. You have an awful lot of bikes. I feel silly for having three. One is a trail bike and the other two are commuters -- one fixed gear and one geared (the SC).

Silly for three? That's a perfectly acceptable number, even to non bike people? At one point three or four years ago I had FIFTY! When I started the selloff down to fifteen back then, I cleared 6 grand in about two months. Right now I'm in the low 20's and reducing. I may keep ten, and revolve bikes in and out.,,,BD

Back in late 2009. this was just my RIDABLE road bikes, I had more in progress, and frames too.

I remember this one languishing on Craigslist for months if not years at $2500 or so. I think the price dropped recently.

Wow.

That's more patience than I could muster. My wall has a little more room on it, I guess, but I kind of like having very little stuff.

Those are both. One is a surfboard (circa 1962 so it would probably get a little love from this crowd) and the red one is a lifeguard style paddleboard -- the kind you paddle on your knees or chest.

I have to say, I was really pleasantly surprised when I took my bike to the supermarket the other day (77 supercourse) and weighed it on the scale at the entrance. If the measurement was accurate, it was about 24.5 lbs.
That's a lot lighter than I expected. I picked up my friend's entry level giant aluminum road bike the other day and it was at least a couple pounds heavier.

That's about the same bike(psychocyclist) I'm dealing with and restoring-yr, color etc(and posted previously). Your paint is in a lot better shape and you have most of your decals-amazing. I've got most of the parts to go on, but lack the time as of yet. Still have to put out for the seat and aluminum rims-they're crazy priced. I sure like the Specialized tires I put on the other ten speed...but they don't have the period look...all black.

This is my mom's Super Course. She got it new, as a highschool student in 1967 or 1968. It was our family backup bike for most of my growing up, kept alive out of the parts box. It was pretty wrecked but she had a LBS go over it recently and got a few goofy parts in the deal (Altus derailleur, f.x.) that I'd like to replace with original spec or period upgrades. Sorry for the crummy picture.

Pretty cool, Mark. I have never seen a Super Course mixte other than the mid-70's MkIIs. Is it a 531 frame?

Interesting, that's pretty much the opposite of my experience. I can't think of any high-mileage tire in my current stable that I haven't punctured at least once, but for those silly white CSTs I've got on my Tempo. Undoubtedly, they are heavy, but I find the rolling resistance to be not noticeably higher than other tires I'm running; but I run the CSTs pretty hard, 100 psi usually. This is on gravel, city streets, MUPs, everywhere. (700 x 28c). I think I'll put that wheelset on my Super Course; see how the white looks with the weird green.

Well, I imagine different riding areas offer different hazards. I don't even bother buying non flat protection tires here in Houston. It's a fools errand, as there at least 100 flat causing hazards for every mile you ride. In Lake Charles, I rarely flatted, unless the tire came off of the rim. In fact I don't think I ever got a puncture flat the whole time I was there, save for once on an organzied ride. and that was with one of the strongest tires out there. Bontrager Hard Case tires.

Here's mine in an in-progress stage. I changed a few things since the pic (bars/stem and Brooks B72) and I'm toying with rack/front basket/and bag arrangements. I will post an update when finished. It probably won't remain a single speed for long. I foresee geared 650b in its future.

Picked up this '73 back in June:

And just this past week finally collected all the parts I wanted for it and built it up:

Cyclone GT RD, 70s Campy Record front. Sugino Super Maxy crankset. Suntour barcons. Randonneur bars from an old Le Tour. Pretty happy with how she came out, but I'm not feeling the bar tape... way too bright. Not sure what alternative would be better, other than plain black, which is kind of boring. It also currently has the original wheelset and horrible Kenda whitewalls. I'll be swapping those for a set of 700c Super Champion Gentleman 81 rims with Shimano hubs and Michelin Dynamic Sport whitewalls, but I'm still waiting on the tires to get here.
