Sturmey Archer AW 9 hub with threaded sprocket

Hi all, further to my recent post on restoring old Raleigh loop frame, I thought I would ask separatley if anyone knows about the threaded 3 speed hub sprocket.

The hub doesn't have the usual date code, but is just stamped "AW-9", possibly 1939?

It has a threaded sprocket, not the usual lugged type, and I am trying to date it.

cheers, Al

AW-9 does = 1939. If you want to change out that sprocket, I'm fairly sure you can substitute a 3-prong driver for the threaded driver (or at least I've done so on later model SA AW hubs).

But changing the cog is not easy. You have to remove the driver and hold it without damaging it while removing the cog with a chain whip. I just changed the driver; they're remarkably cheap.
