Cannondale touring ID help needed

I recently aquired a Cannondale and would appreciate any help in identification. It sports a Sugino MP triple 28/40/50, Suntour 3040 accushift XCM derailluers, Dia Compe side pull brakes, Mallard hubs, MKS pedals. If measures 62cm c2c .(which is too big for me )

That's setup a lot like my '90 ST400 was originally; just no cantilever bosses. I'm no expert, but it's probably +- 1 year from mine.

Too bad it's too big for you.....they're really nice rides.

and ,for inline images put the url to the image between [img] and [/img] tags

Looks very similar to my '87. Has the same patent sticker on the seatstay as mine.

Can you get the serial number? It should be on the chainstay and it's very easy to identify a year. If I had to guess at a model, I'd say a late 80's ST400 as well.

It appears that it is probably an 88 but it could be an 89. I intend to go to the trade section to see if anyone is interested in trading frames. I don't really understand the side pulls seeing that it has the mounts for front racks in the center of the fork legs. It also has 2 bosses on the bottom of the down tube near the bb. It seems to be setup for full blown touring except for the side pulls.

Serial number is 25111688084 and yes it is on the right seat stay. The serial number did not seem to make sense to me.

The serial number makes perfect sense, if you know that (for some weird reason) Cannondale used inches and not CM to describe the ST (vs SR) frame sizes

25 111688 084 = 25 inches frame, 11/16/88 DOM, 084 th frame made that date.

Could be either an 88 or an 89, but based on the components (and color), this is a 1989 ST400.

At one time I had a SR500 and it was sized in CM so I "assumed" that the touring models should be CM as well and we all know what " assume" means. ST400 sounds good to me. I appreciate
the help. I would have guessed an 88 since the rear derailluer was dated July 88 but I am not surprised it is a 89. Thanks for the help.

I have the frame stripped except for the bb. I could not get it loose so I will be going to the lbs Monday for some help. I hope he has the proper tools. The head set is done. It felt notchy before the redo but it feels fine now.
