Refinishing a frame...Question

I have a 87 schwinn letour im in the process of repainting. Its a solid frame but the top gable guides started to rust. After sanding the area down they were toast. So i removed the top three cables guides, dremel and a steady had. Now i have 3 sets of 6 indentions ( ::: ) where the guides were tacked onto place when the frame was manufactured. How should i go about filling these in? Bondo?

There's really no choice for you except to fill it in with body filler, sand them down smooth so the indentations dissapear and paint over them and just use clamped on guide they can actually look very nice, all chromey shiney, specially if you get ones made by Campagnolo.

The ones made by Campagnolo are polished stainless. The older chrome ones are rare. I've found that the Campagnolo clamps are a tight fit and it's difficullt to get the screw started without scratching the paint.

if you don't feel like filling them in, remember your cable is going to run right over those spots. you can get 3 cable clips and put them over the old spots. only you will know those spots are there.

or you could bondo since you are going to repaint anyway.

I have filled dents and dings with Bondo with much success. I mix it up and apply it with a razor blade. A light sand when dry and you're good to go. Cant detect the fill at all after its painted.

Cool bondo it is. After the paint is cured im going to apply some of that clear 3M tape to the top tube to prevent cable rub. Going to pick up a set of guides from sheldon brown, cheap and look good. Painting it white, the original color. I might pin stripe the lugs gold to match the stickers.
