Hi Everyone,

I am new here. I used to be a USCF racer back in the late 80's. Before I stopped racing I purchased a 1990 Team Miyata - this was 1990 that I bought it in.
It has full Dura Ace - everything - I used it for a few training rides and then had to stop cycling due to a car accident - so I never picked it up again.... ugh.
So needless to say the bike is in my garage - I used it maybe a dozen times for neighborhood rides in the past 10 years. It still has original tires, tubes, handle bar tape...etc... only missing a crankarm dust cover.

Anyway - I was thinking of selling it on Ebay or Craigslist - or parting it out for the Dura Ace collectors.
But I happened across this forum and I thought someone here might appreciate it more - as it looks like there are a few Miyata collectors .....

Should I list it for sale here first ? I am in no real hurry - but I do want to pick up a cheap hybrid or something to ride with the kids during the summer.

My old race bike is a Falcon - and I am holding on to that one - making it a fixed gear.

Hi John, sure, sell it here as there is a "Classic and Vintage Sale" subforum and a Team Miyata will garner a lot of interest. If you have an eBay account, you can search for completed sales on Team Miyata bikes and you will see that they usually fetch in the neighbourhood of $600, depending on the size and condition.

edit: I should mention that I am interested in it if it is my size

A Team Miyata will certainly fetch a lot of interest, You might look to trade it for a Hybrid + some cash.


Those are great bikes. I just rode mine today.

Generally things go a little cheaper here than they do on Ebay, but you don't have sellers fees...you don't have to deal with ebay questions and ebay idiots...and you get the knowledge and comfort that it's going to a good home, where it will be loved.

I would say, also; that depending on where you live, you may get just as much for the bike on the Craigslist in a major market area near you. I live a couple of hours away from the SF Bay Area and have had buyers met me half way. Craigs will sometimes take longer to sell than Ebay. However, you don't have to hassle with shipping, unless you opt for local pick-up only. Either way, I think you will be happy with your responses.

OK for those of you that want to salvage it since it is missing the dust cover... sorry - it is actually a 56 cm. Just measured it and checked with the catalog from 1990. If it were a 54 I would have just sent it to you... I would have charged just $10.00 shipping as well.

But seeing that it is a 56 - then it has more value -

Miyatas would be the second target, no question. I like lots of things that don't say Fuji...believe me, but as I explained to Collin at some point my "targeting" Fuji serves two purposes:

1) I simply like the way the mid-80's to early-90's Fujis are styled. They really pushed it at times graphically and stylistically and I like that.
2) I don't feel bad when something, like this Team Miyata, comes and goes. I just tell myself "That's a beautiful bike, but it's not a Fuji."

It's my way of self-throttling...

The OPs Team Miyata is an absolutely stunning bike, no question. Would I kick it out of bed? Heck no! At the very least I'd love to ride it for 40-50 miles just to do it. If I came across that bike locally and bought it for a song I'd be in a serious predicament.

Actually it's a 57.31415926cm frame and as such is EXACTLY MY SIZE. Given that it's such an odd size and will fit ONLY me I think the OP would be fortunate to ship it to me for the cost of shipping plus a case of beer....I mean, it won't fit ANYONE else

John, do you think you could give us some measurements of the seat tube and top tube, centre to centre?

How much did you buy it for in 1990? Its worth that much today right?

Hi -

You know I went out and measured the top tube. It is 55 cm from the center of the headset to the center of the seat post. Attached is the Miyata catalog. It points out that the 56 and 58 have the same measurements for the TEAM. So it looks like the 56 and the 58 are the same.

It would be fun - wouldn't it ?
It was the top of the line Miyata. The bikes under it was the Titanium Team - which was less $, I think something like $1600. I wanted steel. The Team was listed at close to $2000.

As I recall, and my memory is a tenuous thing, these went for around $1,800.

Dang thats a whole lot a bike! Is there anywhere on the internet to that lists the prices?
