Raleigh Twenty Owners
Now that I have your attention, I could use some assistance.
I am restoring a match pair of 1970 Coffee BrownTwenty's, both of which had the shift triggers and cables removed. I'm guessing the previous owner ran them as single speeds.
I need to know the overall shift cable length as well as the length of the cable housing. I'd appreciate if someone could actually measure these for me. I'd also be interested in knowing the Raleigh part number for the cable/housing if anyone knows that.
Is there a exploded drawing of the Twenty on line anywhere?
Thanks guys.
Gary

You can buy a generic 3-speed cable as a replacement and cut it to proper length. In fact, I just did this last week.
I'll send you my measurements soon. If I don't, nudge me.

The matching set of brown 20s that I just refurbished had continuous cable housing all the way back, and s special end piece/stop to secure the end on the chainstay - you are going to need that part, too.
The one I took off is 54 inches (outer cable length.) If you mail me a self addressed stamped box, I'll send you the one I have left, along with the stop and the shifter. They are in pretty rough shape, but would look ok with some cleaning up - the rust came right off everything I cleaned up on the bike I refubished and sold. The bike I'm keeping, I converted to single speed - so if anyone else needs parts, I have all the parts from one bike left over except the frame, headset, and fork. Same deal - self addressed srtamped box.
