Scott Scale 70 Thrift Find

It appears to be a 2006. Not classic or vintage I guess. But it's in almost perfect condition. Well, it is perfect save some mud. $50.

$800 bike for $50? I'd be all over that.

This is not a question. I did buy it. I also am not sure that is still an $800 bike. I also am sure that I am not fond of it's index shifting. Although it could need adjustment. One thing is for sure, it rides nice. And I am sure I could maybe trade it for something I would like better. My local thrift just got a bunch of bikes. Nothing else great though. And this, or something like it is what I want. And can never find.

Clean it up, flip it for a nice profit, and spend the money on the bike of your dreams!

I really don't have a dream bike. Just something simple, not real heavy, and that's reliable. Like my two Trek Multi-Track 750's.
I still wish I was sooner about 18 months ago when somebody got a very clean Specialized RockHopper. It was older, perfect, light weight, and not worth as much as this. But like the Treks, it was probably better.
The index shifting is what I don't like on this bike. I am not a big fan of it to begin with. Although one of the 750's I have has it.
What the hell do you do with all these speeds? More weight, that I don't need. Although the frame is nice. I think that's what makes this bike. The frame, and forks.

You could always convert it to singlespeed, or retrofit an old school friction drivetrain.

A decently framed singlespeed would be the very definitition of simple, light and reliable.

Sell it and buy one of the lightweight, cheap, bikedirect single speed bikes.

(I can't believe I am recommending BD).

It's amazing the frame just doesn't break apart. I was tapping on the tubing last night with my knuckles, and it seemed so thin.

I hope to give it a good spin this weekend. To humid at the moment in the Mid Atlantic. 90 forcasted today.
I did ride it around a bit today. Rides very nice I must say. I am not into difficult trails, so this will
do fine. At least until the next good find. Which could be a while.
