Early 80's Shimano Shifter Questions
I have a 1983 SR Semi Pro, outfitted with Shimano 600 "Arabesque" components.
I've read a few threads here about the proprietary shifter bosses installed on this bike. In one thread a certain plastic part which sits between the shifter lever and the boss/downtube was described as being important.
On one of the shifters on my bike (shifts the front derailleur), it looks to have fallen off:
Why is the plastic adapter important? The shifter still seems to work fine.

It's there to give the lever a full surface to be be clamped to and also act as a sort of bearing surface. There is either i. enough of the plastic left to do this or ii. it is clamping on the top of the shaft. I would try and find one.
