I wish I knew Melvin... They guy I bought it from got it a year ago or so for his son and promised the seller to take good care of it. Apparently, his son likes the mtb better and he decided to sell it again. Being a little ashamed that he broke his promise, he refused to put me in contact with the previous seller and since I'm a sorry excuse for a Sherlock Holmes I didn't even fish for a clue of the roots of the bike.

The bike: a Zieleman in Concorde clothing with Zieleman stamped in the topstays and forkcrown. BB has a five digit number, starting with 79... It has a racenumbertag, which I hadn't seen before on a Zieleman and some nice chrome on the forks. Components are Campy NR derailleurs, shifters, BB and brakes, Sugino Super Mighty crank and Shimano 600 tricolore hubs with an eight speed cassette. It is by far the best maintained bike I've bought so far and it rides absolutely sublime, so there should be no shame in passing it on to me one would think

I think someone raced the bike in a team sponsored by Concorde. It wouldn't be the first incognito Zieleman being ridden hard.

A bottom bracket question for Concorde owners:

I recently bought an old rather rough Concorde. Not sure of the year or model, possibly a 93 or 94 Prelude or Astore. Can anyone suggest what the bottom threading might be?

More details:
The frame is Columbus SL. There's no model name on the top tube, suggesting it was made for a racing team. The frame colors are black and silvery green/blue, similar to the Collstrop team bikes, but not quite. It is made very similar to the Concordes which many people say were made by Ciocc, but there's no little Italian flag on the top tube. The bottom bracket lug appears to measure 70 mm across, so I'm guessing its Italian threaded.

The bike is pretty beaten up. It was made into a single speed a while back and most of the original parts are gone. The only parts that appear original are the Campy Chorus head set and the Shimano Dura Ace brake calipers, 7403 I think. It currently has a modern Ultegra crank and bottom bracket, but its too beaten up to read any markings on it. Sorry, no pictures available yet.

Thanks

This one isn't mine anymore, but it made for a good trade.
I hope that I'm not the only one who can click on the picture to enlarge it, it came directly off my pc.

Cannot answer your question but I dont think it will be a Prelude if it does not have the flag on the top tube.
Also from what I have seen the Prelude was built with PRX tubing.

Here is a pic of my Prelude work in progress while I am here:

Sumgy:

Great looking bike! Mine would seem to be built exactly the same except a different paint job. Of the Concordes I've seen the little medal head tube badge is somewhat rare, maybe specific to just '93 or '94? I wish someone could find a stack of Concorde catalogs to help us figure out what we all have and exactly who made these bikes.

I found some good images of the Collstrop racing team of '92, although there are pics of the team members from several years, https://www.cyclingarchives.com/ploegfiche.php?id=8553. I'm using them to spec out my Concorde to the extent possible.

From what I can tell in these pictures, and what I found on my Concorde, this teams bikes were spec'd out with mostly Dura Ace (brakes, hubs, derailleurs) and a few Campy bits (headset, seatpost, rims).

Here's mine:

Anybody have a good idea on how to date these? I've only seen 88 and 93 catalogs and mu Aquila looks like neither of those. It has a sticker on it saying 88-89 PDM World Cup team, so I'd guess 1990?

Himespau,

I haven't seen any definitive way to date Concordes. Besides the two catalogs you mention it seems the only way to guess the year of your bike is to look at the build and any original components. I'd say your guess of 1990 is pretty good. What's on your head tube, decal or metal head badge?

Rough rider Concorde

Here are pics of mine, newly acquired. The guy I got it from had it for the last five years. He built it into a single speed and used it for commuting. Most of the original parts have been removed. He told me most of the parts were Dura Ace. I'm going to clean it up, do a little spot touch up, and build it back up.

I'm not sure of the model (no indication on the bike) or the year, but I'm guessing '91 or '92. I assume it's Italian made, but the front and rear dropouts are Ultech. Anyone recognize the bottom bracket lug make, or any other details that tell the story?

Decal. And since I built it up from the frame (with a non-matching Tange fork I sourced elsewhere), that's pretty much all I have to go on. Person I bought it from wasn't original owner. It does have the raised Italian colors saying it was contract made in Italy (by whoever they had doing it that year), but that's about it.

Himespau,

You've got the PDM team paint job, so I bet you could narrow down your model year by checking out this PDM team info website, https://www.cyclingarchives.com/zoekploegvrij3.php. PDM apparently rode Concordes from 1986 to '92. Pick your year and any rider and see their team pictures at the bottom of their respective page. You might have to look at a few since their poses vary, blocking certain aspects of the bikes. Some photos are definitely better than others.

As a matter of fact I'm going to look at them too. I've only looked at the Collstrop Team info since my bike colors were close to theirs, but they only rode Concorde for a couple of years, maybe 92 to 94. I'm pretty sure my bikes a little older, maybe find something closer on the PDM pages.

Well, so much for my head badge theory. The website for PDM teams for 86 to 92 show Concordes with decal head badges for all of those years. Here's a good one of Greg LeMond on a Concorde,
https://www.dewielersite.net/db2/wiel...cannen0003.jpg

My Corcorde has the little metal head badge, but also rear brake cable routing through the top tube, so again I'm guessing early 90's. Maybe some shops/frame makers were using decals and others using metal head badges, all at the same time.

The head tube badges dont seem to survive well.
Yours has lost all of its paint just like mine.
You may be able to narrow your search down via the tubing used.
That is how I worked out that mine was a Prelude as it is the only model I found that used PRX tubes.
From there I was also able to find other Prelude's with the same paintwork.

Maybe for the international presence, but locally, they continued to sell rebranded carbon and alu bikes well into the 2000's. but just look at the PDM rider (van de velde?) he looks like a riding pharmacy!

It is Gert Jan Theunisse but more or less the same look and reputation.

I just realized I never posted to this thread. Here is my Concorde:

I think it is a 1986 by looking at the pictures of the PDM team of that year. No serial number that I can find.

My Concorde

I bought this around 1987-1988 ish. Ive never seen a pink Concorde anywhere. It has an all original Campognolo group set (not sure which one but it does say record on the hubs) and Wolber tubular rims. Aside from that i know nothing about the frame. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. sorry if the pic is small
