Here's my '73 Varsity with 26" Sun Rhyno Lite rims and Front & Rear drum brakes.

i'd love to find a smaller size frame with more clearance and move this wheelset over.

It's very interesting to see this thread come up. I've been discussing this same topic with a couple of other BF members. The newer wheelsets can make a huge difference, almost like a totally different bike. miamijim and mrmw told me this a while ago, and it's really sunk in.

The best rolling "upgrade" I have isn't pictured, as the wheels are more traditional. High end Alex rims laced to the same hubs used by Zipp, Dura Ace, and Formula during the 10-sp only era. The bike is simply the smoothest I have.

It seems like the more I upgrade certain components, the easier it is to avoid anything approaching a new bike.

Thinking of replacing Shimano Ultegra 600 with Campagnolo Chorus Groupe with 10 speed configuration. Gotta love Campy quality and performance! My Cinelli Supercourse has Mavic ksyrium Elite wheels, too with full Campy! Gioscinelli
