'84 Trek 850 All-Terrain (Pic Heavy)
I've always lusted over any of the Reynolds 531 Treks. My first real bike was an '85 670 that succumbed to a frame-bending head on with a turning auto
. My dream Trek would be the '85 770 in hot pink.
Well, this is close enough for the time being. I scored this off of Ebay some months ago (frame & fork) and have been building it up slowly over the late winter/early spring. Some of the components are period-correct and some are new. The stickerage and paint are original (and look very close to the 770).
Frame is Reynolds 531 AT, fork is Tange Champion per the catalog
Wheels: Mavic F519 w/Phil hub in back and Deore XT in front
Tires: Specialized Hemisphere Armadillo
Cranks: Deore XT w/Biopace
Pedals: Eggbeaters/Phil platforms
Derailleurs: Dura Ace fore and aft (will replace front with Deore XT 6/7 speed soon)
Shifters: Dura Ace barend on Paul Thumbies
Freewheel: Shimano 600 6-speed
Brakes: Paul levers with Neo-Retros fore and Touring Cantis aft
Stem: Tioga T-bone
Bars: Tange Prestige w/Stubbies barends
Headset: Chris King Grip Nut
BB: Phil
Saddle: Brooks B17
Seatpost: Thomson
Cage: Specialized
Rear is spaced @ 126mm, rear hub is a 130 mm...fits with some effort.
This was intended as a commuter but has seen some dirt also and the ride is fantastic

Very, very, very nice! I'm a long-time old Trek fan. I love it. Sorry to nit-pick, but I think you will want to tweak the rear straddle cable. Braking force is diminished when it is that long. ( https://www.sheldonbrown.com/canti-trad.html ) This in no way dimishes the beauty of this build. Good job!

I've lowered the rear canti straddle cable to approx 3" above the rear tire per the instructions that came with the brake since that pic was taken but the narrative on Paul's site recommend running it ~ 1.5" above the tire....I may try that as I've noticed the braking power is lacking a bit...thanks again!
Any suggestions or constructive criticisms are welcome.

Size of tires is 1.95"-----I used them with my Stumpjumper for a while, they kinda remind me of slick motorcycle tires. They are perfect for the street and light trail use. I love cornering on them, they are very predictable (Specialized Armadillo Hemisphere EX---I got them based on reviews and their appearance).
